Flutter Lace Tee

This romantic and feminine top features a deep lace lower body, a simple textured bodice, sweetheart neckline and delicate fluttering sleeves. This lacy tee invokes the style of the early 1900s while remaining thoroughly modern.

Yarn:

Fine Weight Yarn Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine (100% pima cotton; 136.5 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): #3757 Zen Green (7 (8, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) skeins)

Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” and 30” circular needles (larger sizes may choose to use a longer circular needle), or size to obtain gauge

Notions: Stitch markers, removable marker, stitch holders, tapestry needle

Abbreviations

WFK (Wildflower Knot): Purl 3 sts together without dropping sts from needle, yo, purl the same 3 sts together again, dropping all 3 sts from needle.

Stitch Patterns

Crest of the Wave (Multiple of 12 sts)

Rnds 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 10: Knit.
Rnds 2, 4, 6 and 8: *K1, (k2tog) 2 times, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, (ssk) 2 times; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 11: Purl.
Rnd 12: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1-12 for pattern.

Wildflower Knot

(work in the rnd over multiple of 12 sts + 16)
Rnds 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7: Knit.
Rnd 4: (K3, *WFK, k9; rep from * to 5 sts before side marker, WFK, k2) twice, slipping markers as you come to them.
Rnd 8: (K9, *WFK, k9; rep from * to 11 sts before side marker, WFK, k8) twice, slipping markers as you come to them.
Rep Rnds 1-8 for pattern.

Wildflower Knot

(work flat over multiple of 12 sts +1)

Rows 1, 3, 5 and 7 (WS): Purl.
Rows 2 and 6: Knit.
Row 4: K5, *WFK, k9; rep from * to last 8 sts, WFK, k5.
Row 8: K11, *WFK, k9; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Rep Rows 1-8 for pattern.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round to the underarms, and then split to work the fronts & back separately.

The sleeves are picked up around the armhole and worked to the cuff, partly flat and finished in the round.

Use k2tog for right leaning decreases and ssk for left leaning decreases.

Whenever there are insufficient sts to work a WFK, work the sts in St st instead.

Left & Right fronts refer to the garment as it is worn.

Pattern

Body

With longer circular needle, CO 216 (240, 264, 288, 312, 336) sts, pm, join to work in the round taking care to not twist sts.

Rnds 1 and 3: Purl.
Rnds 2 and 4: Knit.
Work Rnds 1-12 of the Crest of the Wave pattern 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5) times.
Work Rnds 1-9 once more, placing side marker after the first 108 (120, 132, 144, 156, 168) sts on the last rnd.

Next Rnd (Dec): *K1, k2tog, k to 2 sts before side marker, ssk; rep from * to end of rnd. (212 (236, 260, 284, 308, 332) sts)

Next Rnd: Knit.

Next Rnd: Purl.

Next Rnd: Knit.

Next Rnd (Dec): *K1, k2tog, k to 2 sts before side marker, ssk; rep from * to end of rnd. (208 (232, 256, 280, 304, 328) sts)

Work Rnds 2-8 of Wildflower Knot in the round pattern once.

Repeat Rnds 1-8 until garment measures 13.5 (13.75, 13.75, 14, 15.5, 15.75)” from CO.

Divide Fronts and Back

Maintaining Wildflower Knot pattern as much as possible, *k to 6 (6, 8, 8, 9, 9) sts before side marker, BO next 13 (13, 15, 15, 19, 19) sts and remove side marker; rep from *, binding off 7 (7, 8, 8, 10, 10) sts past beg of rnd marker (these sts are bound off for the second armhole). (182 (206, 226, 250, 266, 290) sts)

Put the last 91 (103, 113, 125, 133, 145) sts worked on holder for Front, 91 (103, 113, 125, 133, 145) sts remain on needle for Back.

Back

Shape Armholes

Working flat, shape armholes as follows:

Next Row (Dec): K2, ssk, work to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. (2 sts dec’d)

Note: When there are insufficient sts to work a WFK, work the sts in St st instead.

Cont in pattern as established, rep Dec Row every RS Row 1 (2, 3, 3, 5, 8) more times.

Rep Dec Row every other RS row 1 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) times. (85 (91, 99, 111, 113, 119) sts remain)

Work even until Armhole measures 8.5 (8.5, 9, 9.5, 9.5, 10)”, ending after a WS row.

Next Row (RS): Knit.

Next Row: Purl.

Next Row: K26 (27, 29, 34, 35, 38), BO 33 (37, 41, 43, 43, 43) center sts, k26 (27, 29, 34, 35, 38).

Place remaining sts on holders for shoulders.

Front

Place 91 (103, 113, 125, 133, 145) Front sts on longer circular needle and join yarn ready to beg a RS row.

Shape armholes

Work same as for Back until armhole measures 3.5 (3.5, 4, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5)”, ending after a WS row. (85 (91, 99, 111, 113, 119) sts remain after armhole shaping)

Divide Fronts

Cont in pattern as established, k42 (45, 49, 55, 56, 59) for Left Front, place next 43 (46, 50, 56, 57, 60) sts on holder for Right Front.

Next Row: BO 4 (3, 4, 3, 3, 3) sts at the neck edge every WS row 4 (6, 5, 7, 7, 7) times. (26 (27, 29, 34, 35, 38) sts)

Work even until Front armhole measures same as back, ending after a WS row.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: Purl.

Leaving center Front st on holder, work Right Front same as Left Front, binding off 4 (3, 4, 3, 3, 3) sts at the neck edge every RS row 4 (6, 5, 7, 7, 7) times. (26 (27, 29, 34, 35, 38) sts)

With RS together, join Back and Front shoulder sts using 3-needle bind off.

Neckline Trim

With RS facing and beg at right shoulder seam, pick up and knit 33 (37, 41, 43, 43, 43) across back neck, pick up and knit 2 sts for every 3 rows along left neckline edge, knit center st from holder, pick up and knit the same number of sts along right neckline edge as for the left edge, pm for working in the round.

Purl 1 rnd.

BO all sts.

Sleeves

With RS facing and 16” circular needle, beginning 10 (10, 11, 11, 12, 12) rows to the right of shoulder seam, pick up and knit 21 (21, 23, 23, 25, 25) sts. (1 st per armhole row and 1 st at the seam line)

Note: Slip markers as you come to them.

Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, p20 (20, 22, 22, 24, 24), pm, pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body, turn. (23 (23, 25, 25, 27, 27) sts)
Row 2: Sl 1, k22 (22, 24, 24, 27, 27), pm, pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body, – turn. (25 (25, 27, 27, 29, 29) sts)
Row 3: Sl 1, p24 (24, 26, 26, 28, 28), pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body. (27 (27, 29, 29, 31, 31) sts)
Row 4: Sl 1, knit to 9 (9, 10, 10, 12, 12) sts past the first marker, WFK, knit to end, pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body. (29 (29, 31, 31, 33, 33) sts)
Row 5: Sl 1, p28 (28, 30, 30, 32, 32), pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body. (31 (31, 33, 33, 35, 35) sts)

Row 8: Sl 1, knit to 3 sts past first marker, WFK, k9, WFK, knit to end, pick up and knit 2 sts over the next 3 rows of body. (37 (37, 39, 39, 41, 41) sts)

Next: Cont picking up 2 sts every Sleeve row (2 sts for every 3 body rows and 1 st for each bound off underarm st, adjusting as necessary for the total required sleeve sts) while at the same time working Wildflower Knot pattern as established, until there are 108 (108, 120, 120, 132, 132) sts on the needle, remove markers, place new marker to begin working in the round. Beginning of rnd is at center underarm.

Next: Work Wildflower Knot in the round until Sleeve measures 6.5 (6.75, 7, 7, 7, 7.25)” from shoulder, ending after a knit rnd.

Next: Work Crest of the Wave pattern Rnds 10, 11 and 12, then Rnds 1-12 once.
