Gloria Mittens

The Gloria Mittens are the result of mixing Japanese stitch motifs with Bavarian Twist techniques. Knit in a light pink, the details of these mitts really shine for the girly girl on your list.

Skill Level: Advanced

Size: 8” circumference, 7.5” from wrist to fingertips. Can be made larger by using larger yarn and needles.

Gauge: 26 sts and 40 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st on larger needles.

Materials

Fine weight yarnYarn: Sweet Georgia Yarns Superwash Sport (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 328 yards [300 meters]/100 grams): Apricot (1 skein)

Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm) DPNs, US size 4 (3.5 mm) DPNS

Notions: Stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle.

Abbreviations

RT: Right Twist.

Special Stitches

LLI (Left lifted increase): Insert your left needle from back to front through stitch two stitches below the next stitch on the right needle. Knit this stitch through the back loop and slip off the needle. (1 st inc’d)

M1 P-ST (Make one purlwise): With the left needle, pick up the horizontal strand between the last stitch you knit and the one you’re about to knit, bringing the needle from front to back, then purl through back loop of the strand.

RLI (Right lifted increase): Insert your right needle from back to front underneath stitch one row below the first stitch on your left needle and place it on left needle. Knit this stitch, and slip it off the needle. (1 st inc’d)

Pattern

Right Mitten

With smaller needles, CO 30, pm, CO 25 sts. Place marker for beginning of rnd, join in the rnd, being careful not to twist work.

Rnds 1-12: P1, work Braided Cable Pattern, (p2, k1tbl, p1, k1tbl) 4 times, p2, Work Braided Cable Pattern, p1, sm, (p1, k1tbl, p1, k1tbl, p1) 5 times.

Switch to larger needles.

Left Mitten

Work as for Right Mitten until Thumb Gusset.

Knit 2 rnds even. (57 sts)

Work as for Right Mitten to end.
