Materials
Yarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): #281 Frost Grey (MC, 10 skeins), #871 White (CC, 7 skeins).
Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm) circular, US size 7 (4.5 mm) set of DPNs, or size to obtain gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, sewing needle, pins, contrasting color sewing thread for basting stitches, grey hand quilting thread, rectangular piece of fabric for the back measuring 76” / [193 cm] long x 52” / [132 cm] wide.
Special Stitches
I-cord Bind Off technique
Note: Use the I-cord Bind Off technique for the bind off.
CO 3 additional sts on left needle.
*Knit first 2 sts, knit next 2 sts together, return the 3 sts back onto left needle; rep from * to end.
I-cord Edge
Cont with I-cord, attaching it along the side of blanket by picking up 1 st through the edge.
*Knit first 2 sts, knit next 2 sts together, pick up 1 st through the knit piece edge before you return the 3 sts back onto left needle; rep from * around.
Basket Weave Pattern in 2 colors (worked flat over multiple of 8 sts + 5 + 2 Edge sts)
Row 1: K1 in MC, *k5 in MC, k3 in CC; rep from * until 6 sts rem, k5 in MC, sl st.
Row 2: K1 in MC, *k5 in MC, p3 in CC; rep from * until 6 sts rem, k5 in MC, sl st.

Pattern Notes
This checker blanket is worked flat in two colors.
Start with 1 row in MC. Work the Basket Weave Pattern in two colors, end with 2 rows of MC.
Finish by using I-cord BO and continue to attach I-cord Edges around the entire blanket for a neat finish.
Twist the two colors at the beginning and end of each row. To hide the floats on the wrong side use a fabric liner for the back.

Using MC, CO 247 sts.
Set-up Row (WS): P246, sl st.
Attach CC.
Rows 1-400: Work in Basket Weave Pattern in 2 colors. Cut off CC.
Row 401: K246, sl st.
Row 402: P246, sl st.
Bind off with I-cord Bind Off technique. After you finish the I-cord BO, make 1 row of I-cord Edge at the corner without attaching it to your work. Continue with the I-cord Edge, attaching it around the side of Blanket to the end of the side and the beginning of your I-cord BO.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread the end to tapestry needle. Pull the end through the rem sts on needles, gather up and close the hole, st to secure.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Wash and block to measurements.
Wash the fabric, if needed.
Lay the two pieces (fabric and blanket) with wrong sides facing each other. Use pins to secure the two layers. Using a contrast colored sewing thread and a basting stitch to sew together the two layers.
After the basting stitch secures the two layers together, fold the fabric edge and carefully sew the edges together using the quilting thread.
After the edges are sewn, use the quilting knots to secure the two layers together, spacing the knots approximately 4” / ’10 cm] apart over the entire blanket.
Remove the basting stitches after finishing the quilting knots on the entire blanket.
