Yarn: Premier Yarns Pom Pom Party (100% acrylic; 132 yards [120 meters]/50 grams): #06 Spring Bloom (MC, 1 skein), #01 Jelly Bean (CC1, 1 skein), #05 Toy Boat (CC2, 1 skein)
Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) and US size 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles (16”) and US size 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles (32”) or preferred method for working small circumferences in the round (for shaping top of hat) or size needed to obtain gauge

k2tog: Knit 2 sts together – 1 st dec’d
St st: Stockinette st
Wyib: With yarn in back
Wyif: With yarn in front

Special Stitches

Stripe and Spot (worked for hat in rnds over an even number of sts)
Rnds 1-2: With MC, knit.
Rnd 3: With CC1, knit.
Rnd 4: With CC1, purl.
Rnd 5: With CC2, * k1, sl 1 wyib; rep from * to end.
Rnd 6: With CC2, * p1, sl1 wyib; rep from * to end.
Rnd 7: With CC1, knit.
Rnd 8: With CC1, purl.
Rnds 9-10: With MC, * sl 1 wyib, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep Rnds 1-10 for patt.

Pattern Notes

Hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.

Pattern

With smaller needles and MC, cast on 80 (90) sts.
Place marker (pm) and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist stitches.
Beg K1, P1 Ribbing, work in patt for 5 rnds.
Next rnd: Change to larger needles, beg Stripe and Spot patt on Rnd 1, work in patt for 20 (30) rnds.
Cont to work in St st (knit every rnd) until work meas 4 ¾ (5 ¾)” from cast on edge.

Size 16” Only: Knit 4 rnds.
Dec rnd: * K8, k2tog, pm; rep from * to end. [8 (9) sts dec’d, 72 (81) sts]
Next rnd: Knit.
Dec rnd: * Knit to 2 sts before m, k2tog, sl m; rep from * to end. [8 (9) sts dec’d, 64 (72) sts]
Rep last 2 rnds, 6 (7) more times. [48 (63) sts dec’d, 12 (9) sts]
Size 16” Only: * K2tog; rep from * to end. [6 sts dec’d, 6 sts]

Finishing

Cut yarn, leaving a 6” tail. Using tapestry needle, draw yarn through rem sts. Weave in all ends. yarn ball
