Cozy Cables and Eyelets Cardigan

A cape-like shape that wears like an easy-fitting cardigan, the Cozy Cables and Eyelets Cardigan showcases a very deep raglan shaping with attractive eyelet and cable details. It’s perfect for wear in between seasons!

Materials

Yarn: Patons Classic Wool Roving (100% wool; 120 yards [109 meters]/100 grams): #77013 Taupe (7 (8, 9) balls)
Needles: US size 10 (6.0 mm) and US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles, US size 10 (6.0 mm) and US size 10.5 (6.5 mm) circular knitting needles (40”)
Notions: Cable needle, 4 stitch markers, 3 buttons

Abbreviations

C6B: Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
C6F: Slip next 3 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
P2(3)tog: Purl next 2 (3) stitches together.
P2(3)togtbl: Purl next 2 (3) stitches together through back loops.
Ssk: Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.

Pattern

Cable Panel (worked over 12 sts)
Row 1 (RS): K12.
Row 2 (and alt rows): P12.
Row 3: C6F, C6B.
Rows 5, 7, 9, 11: As row 1.
Row 12: Repeat row 2.

Body

Note: Body is worked in one piece.
With smaller circular needle, cast on 141 (153, 165) sts. Do not join.
Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *K3, p3; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 2: *P3, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, p3.
Rep last 2 rows (k3, p3) ribbing for 2” [5 cm], ending on a 2nd row and inc 15 sts evenly across last row. (156 (168, 180) sts)

Change to larger circular needle and proceed in pat as follows:
Row 1 (RS): P2, (work 1st row Cable Panel pat, p4) twice, k10 (16, 22), p4, (work 1st row Cable Panel pat, p4) 4 times, k10 (16, 22), (p4, work 1st row Cable Panel pat) twice, p2.
Row 2: K2, (work 2nd row Cable Panel pat, k4) twice, p10 (16, 22), k4, (work 2nd row Cable Panel pat, k4) 4 times, p10 (16, 22), (k4, work 2nd row Cable Panel pat) twice, k2.
These 2 rows form pat. Cable Panel is now in position.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures 7½” [19 cm] ending on a WS row. Leave sts on a spare needle.

Sleeve Cuff (Make 2)

With smaller pair of needles, cast on 69 sts and work 4 rows in (k3, p3) ribbing as given for Body. Leave sts on a spare needle.

Join Body and Sleeve Cuffs

Row 1 (RS): Pat across 39 (42, 45) sts of Body (Right Front). Place marker. K69 (Right Sleeve). Place marker. Pat across 78 (84, 90) sts of Body (Back). Place marker. K69 (Left Sleeve). Place marker. Pat across 39 (42, 45) sts of Body (Left Front). (294 (306, 318) sts total)
Row 2: Pat across 39 (42, 45) sts of Left Front, slip marker, p69 of Left Sleeve, slip marker, pat across 78 (84, 90) sts of Back, slip marker, p69 of Right Sleeve, slip marker, pat across 39 (42, 45) sts of Right Front.
Row 3: *Pat to 4 sts before next marker, p3tog, yo, k1, slip marker, yo, p3togtbl, knit to 4 sts before next marker, p3tog, yo, k1, slip marker, yo, p3togtbl; rep from * once more, pat to end of row. (8 sts decreased)
Row 4: *Pat to 2 sts before next marker, p5 (slipping marker), purl to 2 sts before next marker, p5 (slipping marker); rep from * once more, pat to end of row.

Shape Front Neck

Row 2: *Pat to 2 sts before next marker, p5 (slipping marker), purl to 2 sts before next marker, p5 (slipping marker); rep from * once more, pat to end of row.

Button Band and Collar

With smaller circular needle, cast on 27 sts (center back neck edge). Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:
Row 1 (RS): *K3, p3; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Keeping cont of (k3. p3) ribbing, inc 1 st each end of next 25 rows, taking inc sts into ribbing. (77 sts)
Keeping cont of ribbing as established, cast on 3 sts beg next 10 (14, 16) rows. Place markers at each end of last row. (107 (119, 125) sts)
Cast on 50 sts beg next 2 rows. (207 (219, 225) sts)
Work 2 rows even in ribbing.
Next Row (RS): Rib 3, *bind off 2 sts, rib across 17 sts (including st on needle after cast off); rep from * once more, bind off 2 sts, rib to end of row.
Next Row: Rib, casting on 2 sts over bound off sts.
Work a further 2 rows in ribbing. Bind off in ribbing. Sew shaped edge of Button Band and Collar in position (stretching band to fit as necessary) noting cast on edge will join across center back neck edge and placing markers at beg of front neck shaping.
Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes. Sew underarm seam of sleeve cuffs. yarn ball
