Hat
With circular needle cast on 96 sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker.
Rnds 1-5: Knit.
Rnd 6: *K2tog, yo. Rep from & around.
Rnds 7-11: Knit.
Rnd 12: (K7, p1) 12 times.
Rnd 13: (K1, p1, k5, p1) 12 times.
Rnd 14: (K2, p1, k3, p1, k1) 12 times.
Rnd 15: (K3, p1, k1, p1, k2) 12 times.
Rnd 16: (K4, p1, k3) 12 times.
Rnd 17: Rep Rnd 15.
Rnd 18: Rep Rnd 14.
Rnd 19: Rep Rnd 13.
Rep Rnds 12-19 twice more.

Crown Decreases
Rnd 1: (K 10, k2tog) 12 times. (88 sts)
Rnd 2 and all remaining even numbered rnds: Knit.
Rnd 3: (K9, k2tog) 12 times. (80 sts)

Continue decrease pattern as established, working 1 less k st between decs every other rnd, and alternating dec rnds with knit rnds, until 8 sts remain, ending with a knit rnd. Change to DPNs when sts no longer fit neatly on circular needle.
Cut yarn leaving an 8”-10” tail for finishing.
Thread yarn tail onto tapestry needle and run it through all 8 live sts, removing them from needles as you go. Pull tight to finish, weave in yarn tail.
Wristers
Cuff
With DPNs, cast on 40 sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker.
Rep Rows 3-19 of Hat, then Rows 12-19 twice more.
Ribbed Shaping
Row 1: K.
Rows 2-8: Work in k1, p1 rib around.
Row 9: K.
Palm
Rep Rows 12-19 of Hat three times, then Rows 1-11 of Hat. Bind off loosely.
Finishing
Sew picot hems into place at brim of hat, crown of hat, and top and bottom of wristers.
Wet block, being careful to pull sewn hems out widthwise so they aren’t too small, and being careful NOT to stretch out ribbing on wristers.
For wristers, tack top picot hems together where comfortable to form thumb opening.
Weave in ends.
