Hip to Be Square Hat

Make a hat that matches the equally cute Hip to be Square Gloves using the same motif with a bit of a twist. This slouchy hat is perfect for stuffing your hair into and has plenty of depth to cover your ears.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Finished Brim = 8.5” un-stretched, 7.5” deep

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10cm] in St st

Materials

Yarn: Baah Sonoma (100% merino; 233 yards [213 meters]/100 grams): Grey Onyx (MC, 1 skein), Pink Tourmaline (CC1, 1 skein), Gold Rush (CC2, 1 skein), Singin’ the Blues (CC3, 1 skein)
Note: You need about 30 yards of each of the contrast colors, and 90 yards of the main color.
Needles: US size 2 (2.75 mm) circular needle (16”), US size 4 (3.5 mm) circular (16”) and double pointed needles

Pattern Notes

The pattern is worked in the round, from the brim to the crown.

Brim

With smaller needles: CO 126 sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Pm to mark beginning/end of round.
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Repeat Rnd 1, working in ribbing, until work measures 1 3/4” from cast on edge.
Change to larger needles.

Hat

With larger needles, knit 3 rnds.
