Yarn: Red Heart Shimmer (100% acrylic; 244 yards [223 meters]/141 grams): #1810 Royal (1 ball)
Needles: US size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles, US size 8 (5.0 mm) double pointed needles
Notions: Stitch marker, yarn needle

Special Stitches

Broken Rib Pattern (multiple of 6 sts)
Rnd 1: K4, p2; repeat to end of round.
Rnd 2: Knit to end of round.
Rnd 3: K2, p2, *k4, p2*, repeat from ** to last 2 sts, k2.
Rnd 4: Knit to end of round.
Repeat Rnds 1-4 for Broken Rib Pattern.

1×1 Rib Pattern
Rnd 1: K1, p1, to end of round.
Rnd 2: Knit the k sts, purl the p sts.
Repeat Rnds 1-2 for 1×1 Rib pattern.

Pattern Notes

Beanie is knit in the round using circular needles. Change to Double-Pointed needles as you decrease stitches for crown shaping.

With circular needles, cast on 90 stitches, join being careful not to twist stitches, place marker.
Rnds 1-4: Work in 1×1 Rib Pattern.
Rnds 5-28: Work in Broken Rib Pattern, ending on Round 4.

Shape Crown

Next Rnd (decrease round): K4, p2tog, repeat to end of round. (75 stitches)
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd: K2, p2, *k3, p2*, repeat from ** to last stitch, k1.
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd (decrease round): K3, p2tog, repeat to end of round. (60 stitches)
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round
Next Rnd: K2, p1, *k3, p1*, repeat from ** to last stitch, k1.
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd (decrease round): K1, ssk, p1, repeat to end of round. (45 stitches)
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd: K2, p1, repeat to end of round.
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd (decrease round): K2tog, p1, repeat to end of round. (30 stitches)
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd: K1, p1, repeat to end of round.
Next Rnd: Knit to end of round.
Next Rnd (decrease round): K2tog, repeat to end of round. (15 sts)
Next Rnd (decrease round): K2tog, repeat to last stitch, k1. (8 stitches)

Finishing

Cut yarn leaving a tail 6″ [15 cm] long. With yarn needle, draw tail through remaining stitches twice and pull tightly. Weave in ends. Block lightly. yarn ball

    • Hi Karen – the best way is to increase your cast on to 114 stitches. This is the closest “multiple of 6” required by the Broken Rib stitch pattern to your measurement.
