Off The Coast Top

This feminine, little tank top is worked from the top down. The garment features relaxing stockinette stitch and a lovely lace pattern with minimal finishing.

Skill Level: Easy.

Size: Finished Bust Size 33 (37.5, 41, 45.5, 49)” to fit bust 32-34 (36-38, 40-42, 44-46, 48-50)”

No ease recommended.

Shown in size 33”.

Gauge: 21 sts and 24 rows= 4” [10 cm] in St st on larger needle after wet blocking; 20 sts and 28 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in Lace pattern on larger needle after wet blocking.

Materials

Yarn:

Light Weight Yarn Malabrigo Rastita (100% wool; 309 yards [283 meters]/100 grams): Color Sabiduria, 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) skeins.

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm): 29” circular; US size 7 (4.5 mm): 29” circular or different size to obtain gauge.

Notions: 1 stitch marker; stitch holders; waste yarn for provisional cast on; US size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook for provisional cast on; tapestry needle.

Abbreviations

M1L: make one left: pick up the bar between the sts from front to back with the left needle, and knit this bar through the back loop.

M1R :  make one right: pick up the bar between the sts from back to front with the left needle, and knit it through the front loop.

Pattern Notes

The pattern starts by working the shoulders to the underarms, then the front and back are joined together and the body worked in one piece.

Pattern

Back

Using larger needle, crochet hook and waste yarn, provisional CO 13 (15, 17, 17, 17) sts. Break waste yarn. On the same needle and with another piece of waste yarn, provisional CO 13 (15, 17, 17, 17) more sts. These sts will be picked up separately for Right Front and Left Front. Join yarn.

Next Row (RS): Knit all sts from the first set of provisional CO sts, CO 40 (44, 46, 46, 48) sts for Back Neck, knit all sts from the second set of provisional CO sts – 66 (74, 80, 80, 82) total sts.

Work 27 (31, 31, 31, 29) rows in St st, ending with a WS row.

Shape Underarms

Row 1 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 2 sts inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows 6 (7, 8, 10, 13) more times – 80 (90, 98, 102, 110) total sts.

Work 2 rows in St st.

Break yarn and place all Back sts onto waste yarn or stitch holders.

Right Front

Carefully unravel 13 (15, 17, 17, 17) sts from the Right Front provisional CO sts. Join yarn with RS facing.

Next Row (RS): Knit to last 2 sts, ssk – 12 (14, 16, 16, 16) sts.

Work 23 (27, 27, 27, 25) rows in St st, ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck

Row 1 (RS): Knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 1 st inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows 1 (2, 3, 4, 4) more time(s) – 14 (17, 20, 21, 21) sts.

Shape Underarms

Row 1 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 2 sts inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows twice more – 20 (23, 26, 27, 27) sts.

Row 7 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to end, CO 2 sts  –  3 sts inc’d.

Row 8 (WS): Purl.

Work Rows 7-8 one more time, then repeat Row 7 once again – 29 (32, 35, 36, 36) sts.

Break yarn and place all Right Front sts onto waste yarn or stitch holders.

Left Front

Carefully unravel 13 (15, 17, 17, 17) sts from the Left Front provisional CO sts. Join yarn with right side facing.

Next Row (RS): K2tog, knit to end – 12 (14, 16, 16, 16) sts.

Work 23 (27, 27, 27, 25) rows in St st, ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck

Row 1 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to end – 1 sts inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows 1 (2, 3, 4, 4) more time(s) – 14 (17, 20, 21, 21) sts.

Shape Underarms

Row 1 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 2 sts inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows twice more – 20 (23, 26, 27, 27) sts.

Row 7 (RS): CO 2 sts, knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 3 sts inc’d.

Row 8 (WS): Purl.

Work Rows 7-8 one more time, then repeat Row 7 once again – 29 (32, 35, 36, 36) sts.

Join Front

Next Row (WS): Purl all sts from Left Front, CO 20 (22, 22, 20, 22) sts, place all Right Front sts onto a spare needle and purl across all Right Front sts – 78 (86, 92, 92, 94) total sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, M1L, knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2 – 2 sts inc’d.

Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Work these 2 rows 0 (1, 2, 4, 7) more time(s) – 80 (90, 98, 102, 110) total sts.

Work 2 rows in St st.

Body

Next Row (RS): Knit across all Front sts, CO 7 (9, 10, 18, 19) sts for Underarm, place Back sts onto a spare needle and knit across all Back sts, CO 7 (9, 10, 18, 19) sts for Underarm – 174 (198, 216, 240, 258) total sts. This number should be a multiple of 3 sts.

Join to work in the rnd being careful not to twist sts, pm for the beginning of the rnd.

Knit for 2.5 (3, 3.5, 4, 4)” from underarm.

Lace section

Rnd 1: *K1, yo, k2tog; rep from * to end.

Rnd 2: *K1, p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 3: *K1, k2tog, yo; rep from * to end.

Rnd 4: *K2, p1; rep from * to end.

Work Rnds 1-4 until the Body measures 15” from underarm or to desired length, ending with Rnd 4.

Edging

Switch to smaller needle.

Next Rnd: *K2, p1; rep from * to end.

Rep this rnd for 1”.

BO loosely.

Armhole Bands

With smaller needle and RS facing, pick up and knit 7 (9, 10, 18, 19) sts from Underarm CO edge and 53 (59, 62, 64, 67) sts across the armhole (pick up approx. 3 sts every 4 rows) – 60 (68, 72, 82, 86) total sts.

Join to work in the rnd being careful not to twist sts, pm for the beginning of the rnd.

Next Rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Rep this rnd 5 more times.

BO loosely.

Neckband

With smaller needle and RS facing, pick up and knit 40 (44, 46, 46, 48) sts from Back Neck CO edge, 22 (25, 25, 26, 26) sts from Right Front lateral edging, 32 (34, 34, 32, 34) sts from front CO edge and 22 (25, 25, 26, 26) sts from Left Front lateral edging – 116 (128, 130, 130, 134) total sts.

Join to work in the rnd being careful not to twist sts, pm for the beginning of the rnd.

Next Rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Rep this rnd for 1”.

BO loosely.

Finishing
