Island Days Wrap

This design is worked from one short edge to another, alternating striped pattern, nupps and lace. Wrap up as the sun sets with this gorgeous project.

Size: Length 63” [160 cm] (measured along one of the long edges) x Width 17” [44 cm]

Gauge: 22 sts and 42 rows = 4” [10cm] in Striped pattern with nupps, blocked; 22 sts and 31 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Lace pattern, blocked

Materials

Yarn:

Super Fine Weight Yarn Madelinetosh Twist Light (75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 420 yards [384 meters]/100 grams): Cloud Dweller (MC), 1 skein; Medieval (CC), 2 skeins

Needles: US size 6 (4mm): straight or circulars OR SIZE TO OBTAIN THE GAUGE

Abbreviations

MC – main color
CC – contrast color
st(s) – stitch (stitches)
k – knit
p – purl
yo – yarn over
kfb – knit into the front loop of next st, then into the back loop of the same st (2 sts increased)
ssk – slip, slip, knit
k2tog – knit two sts together
sl1 – slip first stitch, with yarn to the back of work
N – make a nupp: (k1, yo) 3 times, k1 –  all into next stitch
p7tog – purl next 7 sts together

Pattern

Wrap

With MC, CO 123 sts.

Work Striped pattern for 9” [23 cm], measured unblocked piece along one of the edges, ending with Row 4 of the pattern, remembering to alternate colors as the pattern indicate as follows:

Section 1 (Striped pattern with bobbles)

Row 1 (RS): With MC, sl1, k to 1 st before end of row, p1.

Row 2 (WS): Sl1, k2tog, k to last 2 sts, kfb, p1.

Row 3: Same as Row 1.

Row 4: Same as Row 2.

Row 5 (RS): With CC, sl1, k3, (N, k5) to last 5 sts, N, k3, p1.

Row 6 (WS): Sl1, k2tog, k1, (p7tog, k5) to last nupp, p7tog, k to last 2 sts, kfb, p1.

Repeat Rows 1-6 ten times total, then Rows 1-4 once. The piece should be 9” [23 cm], measured unblocked piece along one of the edges. Cut MC.

Section 2 (Lace pattern in CC)

With CC only, work lace section for 23.5” [60 cm] as follows:

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, k1, yo, ssk, k1, (k1, yo, k2, k2tog, yo, ssk, k1) 14 times, k1, yo, k2, k2tog, p1.

Row 2 and all WS rows: Sl1, purl to end.

Row 3: Sl1, (k1, yo) twice, (ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo) 14 times, ssk, k3, k2tog, p1.

Row 5: Sl1, k1, yo, k2, (k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k2) 14 times, k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, p1.

Row 7: Sl1, k1, yo, k2, (k2tog, yo, k6) 14 times, k2tog, yo, k2, k2tog, p1.

Row 8: Sl1, purl to end.

Repeat Rows 1-8 sixteen times total, ending with Row 8. The Lace section should be 23.5” [60 cm] measured unblocked along one of the edges.

Section 3 (Striped pattern with bobbles)

Rejoin MC and work Striped pattern with nupps as in Section 1 for 13” [33 cm], repeating Rows 1-8, 17 times total, ending with Row 8. Cut CC.

Section 4 (Lace pattern in MC)

With MC only, work Lace pattern 4 times total, ending with Row 8 as in Section 2. The Lace section should be 6.75” [17 cm]. Cut MC.

Section 5 (Lace pattern in CC)

With CC only, work Lace pattern 6 times total, ending with Row 8 as in Section 2. The Lace section should be 6.75” [17 cm].

Finishing

BO loosely on RS in purl. Weave-in the ends. Wet block to measurements.yarn ball
