Basic Triangle (Make 4)
With (A) CO 3 sts.
Rows 1, 2: Knit.
Rows 3, 5 (RS): With (B) M1, knit to last st, M1.
Rows 4, 6: Purl.
Row 7: With (A) M1, knit to last st, M1.
Row 8: Knit.
Repeat rows 3-8 until you have 43 sts.
Place all sts on holder.
Make two basic triangles. Join them as follows:
Row 1 (RS): With (A) M1, knit until last 2 sts of the first triangle, ssk, PM, start working on the 2nd triangle, k2tog, knit to last stitch, M1. (86 sts)
Note: Increasing one stitch on either side of the piece, and decreasing one stitch on either side of the center marker, results in the number of sts remaining the same.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3, 5: With (B) M1, knit until last 2 sts before marker, ssk, SM, k2tog, knit to last stitch, M1. (86 sts)
Rows 4, 6: Purl.
Rows 7-18: Repeat rows 1-6 three times total.
Cut (B) and replace it with (C).
Rows 19-36: Work same as rows 1-6 three times total. Mark last row on both sides.
Stop increasing on both sides, but keep decreasing at the center as follows:
Row 37: With (A) Knit to 2 sts before marker, ssk, SM, k2tog, knit to end of row. (84 sts)
Row 38: Knit.
Rows 39, 41: With (B) Knit to 2 sts before marker, ssk, SM, k2tog, knit to end of row. (80 sts at the end of row 41)
Rows 40, 42: Purl.
Rows 43-55: Repeat rows 37-42 twice. (68 sts)
Rows 56-76: With (A) knit. Bind off all sts loosely.
Work same as front.
With (A) cast on 12 sts. Work garter stitch for 36”. BO all sts loosely.
Weave in all ends.
Starting at the marked point on the front or back side, sew the strip to the edge of the front/back. Work the same way on the other piece.
Note: Instead of sewing you can hold the back of the front/back piece and the edge of the strip together and work them together with a row of sc passing the crochet hook through both pieces.
Place the plastic canvas piece inside the Bag and attach it to the bottom portion of the strip to the plastic canvas.
Place one piece of the purse handle at the edge of the bag. Fold the garter edge in half while holding the purse handle in between. Using the tapestry needle sew the bind off edge to the first row of garter stitch. Repeat for the other side.
Your bag is ready. If you prefer, you can line the bag.
