Knitted Cast-on

Knit a st as you normally would, but do not slip the st from left needle.

Place the newly formed st on the right needle back on left needle, without twisting it.

Left Lifted Increase (LLI)

With left needle, lift st below st you just knit, knit it through the front loop, inserting needle from right to left.

Right Lifted Increase (RLI)

With right needle, lift st one row below the first st on your left needle.

Place the st on the left needle, knit the st and slip it off the needle.

Picot Bind Off

  1. Knit 2 sts, pass the first st over the second as a normal BO.
  2. Pass the st on right needle back to left needle.
  3. CO 2 sts using the with Knitted Cast-on
  4. (BO 4 sts as usual, knitting 2 sts, then passing the first st over the second) 4 times.

Rep Steps 1-4 until stated in patt.

Joining Picot Bind Off

  1. Knit 2 sts together twice, pass the first st over the second as a normal BO.
  2. Pass the st on right needle back to left needle.
  3. CO 2 sts using the with Knitted Cast-on method.
  4. (BO 8 sts, knitting 2 sts together twice, then passing the first stitch over the second) 4 times.

Rep Steps 1-4 until stated in patt.

Selvedge Stitches in two color

Row 1 (RS): K first st, twist the yarns so to prevent long floats with the unused yarn, work in patt, knit the last st tbl.

Row 2 (WS): Sl first st purlwise with yarn in front, work in patt, sl last st purlwise.

Rep Rows 1-2 for patt.

Pattern Notes

This piece is worked in stripes with a simple slip stitch pattern forming small ripples all over the fabric. Along the waistline, ripples are worked in a denser way, with the side effect of narrowing the fabric for a light waist shaping.

The MC yarn is deliberately thinner than the CC yarn to obtain a more defined smocking effect and a slightly see-through fabric.

Ripples is worked sideways, starting from right side.

Stitches are casted on for the length of the body, both for the back and the front.

The first shoulder is shaped with increases. When the shoulder is done, the neck is shaped to obtain a V-neck and the work continue separately on the front to the other side of the neck opening.

Stitches are left on a holder and the back is worked straight to end of the neck, where the work is joined again and worked in one piece to end.

The second shoulder is shaped with appropriate decreases.

When the piece reaches the desired width, the stitches of both the front and the back are worked together to obtain a single row and bound off with picots.
