Cable Comfort Collared Pullover

Size: 36 (40, 44, 48) (50, 54, 56)” finished chest circumference, meant to be worn with 2-4” of positive ease.

Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch, in the round, blocked.

26 sts and 30 rows = 4” in Cable Pattern, in the round, blocked.

Materials

Yarn: Rico Design Creative Fluffily DK, (DK weight, 40% Cotton, 30% Polyester, 20% Acrylic, 10% Wool); 420 m / 150g): MC 001, 3 (3, 4, 4) (4, 5, 5) cakes; CC 008, 1 cake.

Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles (24″ or longer), or size to obtain gauge

US 4 (3.5 mm) DPN needles.

Notions: Yarn Needle, stitch marker, 2 cable needles.

Pattern Notes

Worked bottom-up, in the round to the underarms, this pullover features Polo-style 2×2 ribbed collar, and 1×1 ribbed front placket that is knitted onto the collar. Sleeves are worked top-down from armholes, seamlessly, using German Short Rows to shape sleeve caps.

Cables are worked utilizing 2 cable needles, or 2 DPNs in one size smaller than the working needle.

When PU stitches for front placket, follow instruction for PU “from front” or “from back” to PU sts from correct side of garment, creating a clean finished look. To PU from front, wyib, insert needle from front of work and PU st; to PU from back, wyif, insert needle from back of work and PU st.

Special Stitches

6-2-6RPC: 6-2-6 Right Purl Cable — sl 6 sts to CN1, hold to back, sl 2 sts to CN2, hold to back, knit 6 sts, purl 2 sts from CN2, knit 6 sts from CN1.

With MC, using Long Tail Cast On method loosely CO 240 (240, 280, 280) (320, 320, 360) sts. Join to work in the Rnd, being careful not to twist sts; PM for BOR.

Keeping Cable Patt correct, work flat, shaping armholes as follows:

Collar

Work 2×2 Rib as follows:

Row 1 (WS): K 2, *p 2, k 2; rep from* to last 2 sts, k 2.

Row 2 (RS): P 2, *k 2, p 2; rep from* to last 2 sts, p 2.

Rep Rows 1 & 2 until piece measures 5”, ending with RS row. BO loosely on WS, in pattern. Do not break yarn.

Right Front Placket

With WS facing, using CC yarn, PU 20 sts along right edge of collar, picking up sts from front; PU 16 sts down right front edge, picking up sts from back; PU 12 sts across bottom front slit, picking up sts from back at the rate of 2 sts for every BO st. 48 sts on the needle.

Begin knitting and joining Front Placket as follows:

Row 1 (RS): Sl 1, (k 1, p 1) five times, p2tog, turn.1st dec.

Row 2 (WS): Wyif, sl 1, (k 1, p 1) five times, p 1, turn.

Rep Row 1 and 2 until 13 sts left on the needle, ending with WS row.

BO Row (RS): Sl 1, BO sl stitch and next 9 sts, p2tog, BO last st. Break yarn.

Left Front Placket

With RS facing, with CC yarn, PU 20 sts along left edge of collar from back; PU 16 sts down right front edge from front; PU 12 sts across bottom front slit, picking up 2 sts for every BO sts and working behind right front placket. 48 sts on the needle. Begin knitting and joining Left Placket as follows:

Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, (p 1, k 1) five times, p2tog, turn. 1 st dec.

Row 2 (RS): Sl 1, (p 1, k 1) five times, p 1, turn.

Rep Row 1 and 2 until 13 sts left on the needle, ending with RS row.

BO Row (WS): Sl 1, BO sl st and next 9 sts, p2tog, BO last st.

Sleeves (make two the same)

With RS facing, staring in the middle of underarm, with MC, PU 5 sts from half of the underarm BO sts; PU 28 (31, 33, 36) (38, 41, 43) sts up along armhole to shoulder seam; PU 28 (31, 33, 36) (38, 41, 43) sts down along armhole; PU 5 sts from underarm BO sts. Place BOR marker. 66 (72, 76, 82) (86, 92, 96) sts on the needle.

Setup Row: k first 39 (42, 45, 49) (51, 55, 58) sts, turn.

Begin working sleeve cap using Short Rows as follows:

Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, make DS, P 11 (11, 13, 15) (15, 17, 19) turn.

Row 2 (RS): Sl 1, make DS, K 12 (12, 14, 16) (16, 18, 20) turn.

Row 3 (WS): Sl 1, make DS, P 13 (13, 15, 17) (17, 19, 21) turn.

Row 4 (RS): Sl 1, make DS, K 14 (14, 16, 18) (18, 20, 22) turn.

Cont. in like manner, working one more st on each side of sleeve cap. Work until all armhole sts, besides 10 underarm sts, have been worked.

On last RS row, do not turn; knit 5 underarm sts to BOR marker.

Begin working in the round, working decs every 8 (9, 8, 7) (6, 6, 5) rnds as follows:

Dec Rnd: K2, ssk, k to 4 sts before BOR marker, k2tog, k 2. 2 sts dec.

Rep Dec Rnd another 10 (9, 11, 12) (14, 15, 17) times. After completion of sleeve shaping 22 (20, 24, 26) (30, 32, 36) sts dec. 44 (52, 52, 56) (56, 60, 60) sts on the needle.

Work even until Sleeve measures 15 (15, 15, 16) (16, 17, 17)” from underarm, or desired length.

Cuff

Work 2×2 Rib for 20 rnds. BO all sts loosely.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
