Loving Strides Socks

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Universal Yarn Uni Merino (fiber content; 75% super wash merino wool, 25% nylon, 437 yds yards [399.5 meters]/100 grams): Color Number: 143 Color Name: Peony (MC 1 ball), Color Number: 110 Color Name: Peachskin (CC 1 ball)

Hook/Needles: US size 0/(2.0 mm) 9”  circular needles and dpns

Notions: 2 stitch Markers, tapestry needle.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the cuff down. Worked back and forth for the heel flap, and stitches are picked up and knit in the round for the foot and toe.

Pattern is written for size Baby with larger child sizes in the first set of parentheses and Women’s Adult shoe sizes in the second set of parentheses as follows: Baby (toddler, child sm, child med) (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12).

Cuff

Cast on 32 (40, 48, 56) (64, 72, 80, 88) sts using the long tail cast on. Join in the round, placing a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.

Work in twisted [K1, p1] ribbing for 2 (2, 2, 2.5) (5, 5, 6, 7) inches.

*Adjust according to your desired leg cuff length.

Work 3 rounds in stockinette stitch.

Refer to the hearts chart, and work stranded colorwork for the heart motif over the specified amount of rows.

Protip: you can hold one strand in each hand, throwing” with your contrasting color and picking” with your main color

Work two rows in stockinette stitch.

Begin the heel flap by working half of the sts 16 (20, 24, 28) (32, 36, 40, 44).

Work [slip one, knit one] on all RS rows and purl all stitches on WS rows over the heel flap back and forth for 16 (20, 24, 28) (32, 36, 40, 44) rows. Heel flap should end as a square.

Turning the heel

Slipping the first stitch each time you turn your work and begin your next row.

Knit until you have worked 10 (12, 14, 16) (18, 20, 22, 24) sts, K2tog, knit one. Count the stitches remaining unworked.

Turn work.

Purl until you have 3 stitches more than the remaining stitches unworked on the other side, p2tog, p1. Turn work.

Knit to one stitch before your gap, K2tog over the gap, k1. Turn work.

Purl to one stitch before the gap, P2tog over the gap, p1. Turn work.

Repeat previous 2 rows until you have worked all of your heel stitches.

With RS facing and working in knit direction, pick up 8 (10, 12, 14) (16, 18, 20, 22) stitches along side of heel flap, place st marker at beg of top of foot, knit across top of foot, place st marker at end of top of foot, pick up 8 (10, 12, 14) (16, 18, 20, 22) stitches along side of heel flap, knit across any remaining heel sts.

Decrease before the first st marker with a knit2tog. Decrease after the second st marker with a ssk.

Work decreases every other row. Until you have a total of 32 (40, 48, 56) (64, 72, 80, 88) sts again.

Knit the foot in stockinette stitch until you have reached 1.5 inches to the end of the foot.

Or measuring from the beginning of the heel turn knit for 2 (2.5, 3.5, 4) (5, 5.5, 5.75, 6) inches.

*There are two inch measurements per Adult foot size, let the size of the intended recipients foot guide which you choose.*

Adult shoe size women’s: (5)7.12 inches, (6) 7.25 inches, (7) 7.62 inches, (8) 8 inches, (9) 8.12 inches, (10) 8.25 inches, (11) 8.75 inches (12) 9 inches.

(Try it on for size, your work should align with where the toes begin).

Decrease for the toe

Decrease for toe on both sides of the stitch markers every other row as follows:

Three stitches before each marker Ssk, k1, slip marker, k1, K2tog after each marker.

Knit one round, repeat the decrease round.

Rep prev 2 rounds until you have 12 (12, 14, 14) (16, 18, 20, 22) sts on each side.

Use Kitchener stitch to seam the stitches of the toe together.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Block if you want to take a photo, I like to wear my socks straight out of the dryer, I find it gives the best fit. (superwash only)
