Marshmallow Cream Knit Socks

Knit your own pair of boot socks with this charming design.

Kicking your shoes off has never looked better. Not just your average pair of autumn socks, this upscale pair has a delicate charm despite being made for warmth, and the textured V-like stitch adds some visual dynamism to the front.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 8¾ (9½, 10½)” foot circumference, foot length can be adjusted to any size.

Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: West Yorkshire Spinners (100% Bluefaced Leicester; 182 yards [166 meters]/100 grams): Ecru, 2, (2, 3) balls.

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm): DPNs; US size 7 (4.5 mm): DPNs

Notions: Removable markers; tapestry needle.

This pattern is worked in the round from the top down with a heel flap and gusset.

Cuff

With smaller needles, CO 60 (64, 68) sts, join to work in the rnd, taking care not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 until Cuff meas 2” from CO edge.

Calf

Switch to larger needles.

Rnd 1: K2tog, k to end – 59 (63, 67) sts.

Rnd 2: K5 (6, 7), pm, work Cozy Chevron patt Rnd 1, pm, k to end.

Rnd 3: K to m, sm, work next rnd of  Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end.

Rnd 4: K to m, sm, work next rnd chart, sm, k19 (21, 23), pm, m1r, k2, m1l, pm, k to end.

Rnds 5-6: K to m, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end (slipping markers as you go).

Rnd 7: K to m, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to m, sm, m1r, k to m, m1l, sm, k to end – 2 sts inc’d; 63 (67, 71) sts.

Rnds 8-9: K to m, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end (slipping markers as you go).

Leg

Rnd 1: Knit first 4 sts from beginning of rnd. Beginning of rnd moves 4 sts to the left.

Rnd 2: K1, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to next marker, remove marker, k3, ssk, pm, k2tog, k to next marker, remove marker, k to end – 2 sts dec’d; 65 (69, 73) sts.

Rnds 3-4: K to marker, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end.

Rnd 5: K to marker, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to 2 sts before marker, ssk, sm, k2tog, k to end – 2 sts dec’d; 63 (67, 71) sts.

Rep Rnds 3-5, 10 more times – 2 sts dec’d; 43 (47, 51) sts.

Rep Rnd 3 until Leg meas desired length (just above the ankle, with the sock fitting your leg comfortably).

Heel Flap

Set-up: Turn work so WS is facing. Switch to smaller needles.

Rnd 1: Sl1, p21 (23, 25), turn work.

Rnd 2: *Sl1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rep Rnds 1-2 until Heel Flap meas 2½”, end after Rnd 1.

Heel Turn

Rnd 1: Sl1, k12 (13, 14), ssk, k1, turn work.

Rnd 2: Sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn work.

Rnd 3: Sl1, k to 1 st before gap, ssk, k1, turn work.

Rnd 4: Sl1, p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn work.

Rep Rnds 3-4 until all Heel sts have been worked.

Rnd 5: Sl1, k across Heel.

Gusset and Foot

Rnd 1: Pick up and knit sts along side of Heel Flap, k to marker, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end instep, pick up and knit same number of sts along other side of Heel Flap, k half of Heel sts. Place maker in the middle of the Heel to indicate new beginning of rnd.

Rnd 2: K to 3 sts before instep, k2tog, k1, k to marker, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end of instep, k1, ssk, k to end.

Rnd 3: K to marker, sm, work next rnd of Cozy Chevron patt, sm, k to end.

Rep Rnds 2-3 until 43 (47, 51) sts rem.

Rep Rnd 3 until Foot meas 2” shorter than desired length.

Toe

Rnd 1: K2tog, k to 3 sts before instep, k2tog, k2, ssk, work in patt to 3 sts before end of instep, k2tog, k2, ssk, k to end (remove markers as you come to them).

Rnd 2: K to instep, k2, work in patt to 2 sts before end of instep, k to end.

Rnd 3: K to 3 sts before instep, k2tog, k2, ssk, work in patt to 3 sts before end of instep, k2tog, k2, ssk, k to end.

Rnd 4: K to instep, k2, work in patt to 2 sts before end of instep, k to end.

Rep Rnds 3-4 until 18 sts rem.

Knit past the beginning of the rnd to the instep.

Break yarn leaving a 12” tail.

Kitchener St Toe closed.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
