Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Lace Pattern on smaller needles after blocking;

19 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st on larger needles after blocking

Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% Merino Wool; 210 yards [193 meters]/100 grams: 052 Paris Night (C1), 4 (5, 5, 6, 7, 8) skeins; Malabrigo Yarn Lace (100% Baby Merino Wool; 470 yards [430 meters]/50 grams: 28 Blue Surf (C2), 1 skein

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm): 24-40″ circular; US size 9 (5.5 mm): 24-40″ circular

Notions: Stitch holders or waste yarn; tapestry needle; markers

Special Stitches

Lace Pattern

Row 1: *P1, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *P1, k9; rep from * to end.

Row 3: *K2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk, p1; rep from * to end

Row 4: Rep Row 2

Rep Rows 1-4 for patt.

Pattern Notes

The lace is worked separately to desired length and then worked together with the hem to get joined to the garment. The sweater is worked bottom-up, seamlessly, in the round to armholes. The sleeves are also worked in the round from cuffs to armholes. The round yoke is worked in the round up to the neckline.

Pattern

Sleeves (make 2)

With smaller needles and C1, CO 40 (42, 44, 46, 46, 48) sts, PM, join in rnd.

Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end rnd, SM.

Rep Rnd 1 until piece meas 3″ / [8 cm].

Switch to larger needles.

Knit 2 rnds.

Next Rnd (Inc): K1, M1L, k to last st, M1R, k1, SM – 2 sts inc’d; 42 (44, 46, 48, 484, 50) sts.

Cont working in St st, repeating Inc Rnd every 13 (11, 9, 8, 7, 6) rnds until there are 56 (62, 68, 72, 76, 80) sts on the needles.

Work straight until Sleeve meas 18½ (18¾, 19, 19, 19, 19)” / [47 (48, 49, 49, 49, 49) cm].

Next Rnd: K to last 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts, BO 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts, remove M, BO  3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts – 50 (54, 60, 62, 66, 68) sts.

Place sts on holder and set aside.

Rep for second Sleeve.

Lace Detail

With smaller needles and C2, CO 200 (220, 240, 260, 280, 300) sts, PM, join to work in rnd.

Work Lace Pattern for 46 rows, ending with Row 2 or Row 4.

Knit 1 rnd, evenly decreasing 26 (30, 30, 34, 38, 38) sts – 174 (190, 210, 226, 242, 262) sts.

Set aside Lace Detail aside and work Body Ribbed Hems.

Ribbed Front Hem

*With smaller needles and C1, CO 87 (95, 105, 113, 121, 131) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Sl1 wyib, *k1, p1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1.

Row 2 (WS): Sl1 wyib, *p1, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.**

Rep Rows 1-2 until piece meas 2″ / [5 cm], ending with a WS row. Set piece aside.

Ribbed Back Hem

Work as Ribbed Front Hem from * to **.

Rep Rows 1-2 until piece meas 3″ / [8 cm], ending with a WS row.

Body

Take Ribbed Back Hem with RS facing, and holding Lace Detail with RS facing to the back of it, with needle tips facing right, join Lace Detail and Ribbed Hem, working with larger needles, as follow:

Join Rnd (RS): Insert RN tip into first st of Ribbed Hem, insert RN tip into first st of Lace Detail, pick up working yarn (C1) and knit these 2 sts tog, joining pieces, *insert RN tip into next st of Ribbed Hem, insert RN tip into next st of Lace Detail, pick up working yarn and knit these 2 sts tog; rep from * until all Ribbed Back Hem sts are worked. Take Ribbed Front Hem and place it over remaining Lace Detail sts. Join the pieces the same way, PM, join in the rnd – 174 (190, 210, 226, 242, 262) sts.

Work in St st for 14 (14, 14, 15, 15, 15)” / [36 (36, 36, 38, 38, 38) cm].

Next Rnd: K87 (95, 105, 113, 121, 131), PM, k to end rnd, SM.

Armholes

Rnd 1: K to 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts before M, BO 6 (8, 8, 10, 10, 12) sts, removing marker, k to 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts before next M, BO 6 (8, 8, 10, 10, 12) sts, removing marker – 162 (174, 194, 206, 222, 238) total sts; 81 (87, 97, 103, 111, 119) sts for Back and Front.

Yoke

Join Rnd: K Right Sleeve sts, k Back sts, k Left Sleeve sts, k Front sts, PM, join in the rnd – 262 (282, 314, 330, 354, 374) sts.

Knit 5 rnds.

Dec Rnd 1: *K8, k2tog; rep from * to last 2 (2, 4, 0, 4, 4) sts, k to end – 26 (28, 31, 33, 35, 37) sts dec’d; 236 (254, 283, 297, 319, 337) sts.

Knit 9 rnds.

Dec Rnd 2: (K4, k2tog) 39 (42, 47, 49, 53, 56) times, k to end – 197 (212, 236, 248, 266, 281) sts.

Knit 7 rnds.

Back Neckline Shaping

Mark Front Center.

Short Row 1 (RS): K to 15 (16, 18, 19, 20, 21) sts to Front center, W&T.

Short Row 2 (WS): P to 15 (16, 18, 19, 20, 21) sts to Front center, W&T.

Short Row 3: K to 5 sts before wrapped st, W&T.

Short Row 4 (Dec): (P1, p2tog) 26 (28, 32, 34, 36, 39) times, p1 (2, 0, 0, 2, 0), W&T – 93 (100, 110, 116, 124, 130) sts.

Short Row 5: K to 5 sts before last wrapped st, W&T.

Switch to smaller needles.

Short Row 6: P2tog 1 (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) times, p to 5 sts before last wrapped st, W&T, PM for new rnd beg – 92 (100, 110, 116, 124, 130) sts.

Next Rnd (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to M.

Rep last rnd 3 more times.
