Pattern Notes

Circular needles are used to accommodate large numbers of sts. Do not join; work back and forth in rows.

This cardigan is worked from the top down, beginning at the top of the hood. The hood is shaped by working the top section flat, then picking up stitches along each selvedge edge. The top of the hood is shaped with short rows, then decrease rows are evenly spaced along the length of the hood to the neck.

There are shoulder stitches cast on for the back shoulders.

The front hood stitches are held while the back is worked to the underarms.

Front shoulder stitches are picked up from the back shoulder cast-on stitches, and worked with the front hood stitches to the armhole. When both fronts and the back are worked to the armhole, there are stitches cast on for the underarms, and the body is worked from the underarm down to the hemline, with waist shaping and waste yarn placed for the pockets.

Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes and the cap is shaped with short-rows, then worked down to the cuff. The button band is picked up and knit, then the pocket lining waste yarn is removed and those exposed stitches are worked in the round on DPNs, then turned inside out and joined with a three-needle bind-off.
