Sun & Sea Shawl

This oversized scarf is knit entirely in garter stitch, making it a great TV or travel project. Follow the suggested stripe sequence or make up your own color scheme. Regular shaping makes it easy to customize this as your own.

Light Weight Yarn Universal Yarn Bamboo Pop (50% bamboo, 50% cotton; 292 yards [266 meters]/100 grams): 101 white (A), 2 balls; 111 midnight blue (B), 2 balls; 103 strawberry (C), 1 ball

Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm): 40” circular

Pattern Notes

This Scarf is worked in two sections. First, a right triangle is knit from the center out. Then, half the stitches from the outer edge of this right triangle are bound off. A narrow triangle is worked out from the other side of the right triangle. I-Cord and Tassels finish it off. The entire piece is worked in Garter stitch. Slip all stitches purlwise with the yarn held to the WS of the work.

Edging

Working through slipped sts along side of piece, pick up and knit 1 st for every slipped st along longest straight edge of piece to corner, slide sts to other end of needle.

With B, CO 3 sts to first (A) st on needle (last rem st from Long Triangle Section), bind off all picked up sts using I-Cord Bind Off, work 2 rows of I-Cord without joining (corner turned), with A, pick up and knit 1 st for every slipped st along side of triangle to corner of Right Triangle Section, slide sts to other end of needle.

With B, bind off all picked-up sts using I-Cord Bind Off, work 1 row of I-Cord without joining (corner turned), with A, pick up and knit 1 st for every slipped st along rem angled side of Long Triangle Section, slide sts to other end of needle.

With B, bind off all picked up sts using I-Cord Bind Off. Work 1 row even of I-Cord. Bind off rem 3 I-Cord sts. Sew ends of I-Cord together.

Finishing

Block piece to finished measurements.

Tassels (make 2)

Wrap B 75 times around 4” piece of cardboard. Cut two 10” pieces of yarn. Slide one 10” piece of yarn through one end of wrapped yarn, tie tightly. Cut the other end of the wrapped yarn, freeing it from the cardboard. Wrap the other 10” piece of yarn around top of Tassel approximately 1” from top. Pass ends through center of Tassel. Cut ends of Tassel even. Sew a Tassel to each pointed end of shawl.yarn ball
