Waves of Grain Pillow

Add some texture and a hint of color to your home this fall. The main section of this pillow begins with a provisional cast on and knit in one rectangle. The i-cord edging in a variegated yarn adds the subtle pop of color.

Size: 14″ long x 6″ diameter

Gauge: 12½ sts and 18 rows = 4″

Yarn:

Bulky Weight Yarn Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 128 yards [116 meters]/100 grams): #0862 Walnut (MC), 2 hanks

Medium Weight Yarn Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica Space Dyed (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 138 yards [125 meters]/100 grams): #129 Pressed Flower (CC), 1 hank

Needles: US size 11 (8 mm): straight and long circular needle or set of dpns; US size 10½ (6.5 mm) dpns; spare needle of same size or smaller for 3-needle bind off; US size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook.

Notions: Markers; waste yarn for provisional cast on; cable needle; tapestry needle; bolster pillow form (14″ long x 6″ diameter)

Last Row: Work in patt to 3rd marker, (k1, k2tog) 4 times, work in patt across to end of row – 48 sts.

Joining Row: Carefully unzip provisional cast-on and slip sts to spare needle. With WS of fabric together, work 3-needle bind off across row, forming tube.

End

With RS facing and working behind edge st and in column of St st on WS, inserting needle in needle from outer edge toward center, pick up 60 sts evenly spaced around (approximately 5 sts per 7 rows).

Rnd 1: *K10, k2tog; rep from * around – 55 sts.
Rnd 2: *K9, k2tog; rep from * around – 50 sts.
Rnd 3: *K8, k2tog; rep from * around – 45 sts.
Rnd 4: *K7, k2tog; rep from * around – 40 sts.
Rnd 5: *K6, k2tog; rep from * around – 35 sts.
Rnd 6: *K5, k2tog; rep from * around – 30 sts.
Rnd 7: *K4, k2tog; rep from * around – 25 sts.
Rnd 8: *K3, k2tog; rep from * around – 20 sts.
Rnd 9: *K2, k2tog; rep from * around – 15 sts.
Rnd 10: *K1, k2tog; rep from * around – 10 sts.

Cut yarn and thread tapestry needle with end. Weave through rem sts, pulling tightly to close.

I-cord Edging

With smaller size dpns and CC, CO 3 sts. Working in edge sts of Body and inserting needle from outer edge toward center and beginning at seam, pick up 1 st in first row end. Slide sts to opposite end of needle.

Row 1: K2, ssk, pick up 1 st in next row, slide sts to opposite end of needle – 4 sts.

Repeat Row 1 around.

Last Row: K2, ssk, cut yarn and sew rem 3 sts to Row 1.

Insert pillow form.

Rep End and I-Cord Edging on second end.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
