Asymmetrical Arrowhead Poncho

This airy poncho is a perfect spring accessory to add a touch of style and warmth for a chilly evening. The self-patterning yarn does all of the color work for you, making this dynamic poncho look more difficult to make than it is.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Small: 17” x 41”; (Medium: 19” x 43”; Large: 21” x 45”)

Gauge: 14 sts x 17 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern before blocking


Yarn: Cascade Yarns Casablanca (59% wool, 24% silk, 17% mohair; 220 yards [201 meters]/100 grams): #5 Peacock (2 (3, 4) balls)
Needles: US size 9 (5.5 mm) 40” circular needles, US size 10 (6 mm) 40” circular (optional, for casting on and binding off)
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional)


Psso: Pass slipped stitch over
Sk2p: Sl 1 pw, k2tog, psso
Sl 1 kw: Slip 1 knitwise
Sl 1 pw: Slip 1 purlwise

Pattern Notes

Always slip stitches with yarn in back.
If you plan to use optional stitch markers, place markers as follows while casting on: CO 2 sts, *pm, CO 10 sts; rep from * as per pattern instructions, end pm, CO 1.
When adding new yarn, unravel new ball until you reach the current or next color in use in the project to continue striping sequence.


CO 133 (163, 193) with long tail cast on loosely. (Optional: use larger needle to cast on sts.)
Row 1 (RS): Sl 1 kw, *k1, yo, k3, sk2p, k3, yo; rep from * across to last 2 sts, k1, p1.
Row 2: Sl 1 kw, p across.
Row 3: Sl 1 kw, *k2, yo, k2, sk2p, k2, yo, k1; rep from * across to last 2 sts, k1, p1.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Row 5: Sl 1 kw, *k3, yo, k1, sk2p, k1, yo, k2; rep from * across to last 2 sts, k1, p1.
Row 6: Rep Row 2.
Row 7: Sl 1 kw, *k4, yo, sk2p, yo, k3; rep from * across to last sts, k1, p1.
Rows 8-9: Rep Row 2 twice.
Row 10: Sl 1 kw, k to last st, p1.
Rep Rows 1-10 6 (7, 8) more times – 70 (80, 90) rows total.
BO loosely in pattern for Row 10. (Optional: use larger needle to bind off sts.) Fasten off with long yarn tail for seaming.


Spray block to finished measurements. Fold in half lengthwise with RS facing, use scrap yarn or locking stitch marker to mark 12” (12”, 12.5”) from folded edge – forms 24” (24”, 25”) circumference neck opening. With yarn needle, working along top long edge, whipstitch remaining long edge closed. With yarn needle, weave in ends.
