Apple Leaves Sweater

Your little ones will always be a treat, but keeping their styles up to date with their growth spurts can be tricky. This classic baby sweater is just the project to work up in time for fall to keep them feeling comfy and looking cute. The design is knit from the top down with a lace leaf design and garter hems and cuffs.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 3 (6, 12, 18, 24) months. Finished Bust Size 19 (19¾, 21, 21¾, 23¼) in” to fit bust 16 (17, 18, 19, 20)”

3” positive ease recommended.

Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st on smaller needle after wet blocking.

Yarn: Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK (100% Extra Fine Merino; 127 yards [116 meters]/50 grams): 0449 Botanist, 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) balls

Hook/Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm): 16” circular and DPNs; US size 6 (4 mm): 16” circular and DPNs

Notions: Stitch holder or waste yarn; 7 stitch markers (2 should be a different color or style to the others); two buttons (½” diameter); spare DPN

Rep last Rnd until the piece meas 9¼ (10¼, 10¾, 11¼, 11¾)” from top of shoulder or length desired, ending on Rnd 7 of Foliage Main (in the round) patt.

Note: The edging adds ¾” to the length of the body.

Garter Edging

Change to smaller needle.

Rnd 7: Knit.

Rnd 8: Purl.

Rep Rnds 7-8, 3 more times.BO all sts kwise.

Sleeves

Place the 38 (40, 42, 44, 46) sts from one Sleeve from waste yarn on larger DPNs.

PU and k6 sts from the underarm BO edge of the body – 44 (46, 48, 50, 52) sts.

Rnd 1: K to final original st, k2tog (one original st and one picked up st), k2, pm to mark start of round, k2, ssk, k to start of round marker – 2 sts dec’d; 42 (44, 46, 48, 50) sts.

Knit 5 (5, 7, 7, 9) rnds.

Next Rnd: K1, ssk, k to 3 sts before m, k2tog, k1 – 2 sts dec’d; 40 (42, 44, 46, 48) sts.

Work these 6 (6, 8, 8, 10) rnds 5 more times – 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) sts.

Next Rnd: Knit.

Rep last rnd until Sleeve mea 5½ (6, 7, 7½, 8)” or desired length.

The cuff adds ¾” to the length of the Sleeve.

Cuff

Change to smaller DPNs.

Rnd 1: Purl.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rnd 3: Purl.

Rep Rnds 2-3, 3 more times.

BO all sts kwise.

Repeat for second sleeve.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Sew buttons into position to line up with the buttonholes.

Wash the sweater according to the instructions given on the ball band. Squeeze out any excess water, arrange the sweater to the dimensions given in the schematic and leave to dry flat.
