Skill Level: Beginner

Size: 17” circumference x 8” tall to fit average Adult Woman’s head.

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after blocking.

Materials

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft (100% Acrylic; 315 yards [288 meters]/170 grams): 9509 Grey Heather (A), 1 skein; 9711 Dark Country Blue (B), 1 skein; 9701 White (C), 1 skein; 9707 Dark Sage (D), 1 skein

Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm): 16” circular; US size 8 (5 mm): 16” circular

Notions: Tapestry needle; stitch marker.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round on circular needles. There is a ribbed brim, then the hat is worked in stockinette stitch for the body. You will decrease for the crown before switching back to ribbing for the pony tail opening.

Pattern                                                                                                                

With smaller needles and D, CO 84 sts. Place marker to show the beginning of the rnd.

Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnds 1-12: Rep Rnd 1.

Switch to larger needles.

With C, knit 4 rnds.

With B, knit 10 rnds.

With A, knit 8 rnds.

Crown Decrease

Rnd 1 (Dec): With B, *k5, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 72 sts.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rnd 3 (Dec): *k4, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 60 sts.

Rnd 4: Knit.

Rnd 5: With C, *k3, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 48 sts.

Rnd 6: Knit.

Rnd 7: With D, *k2, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 36 sts.

Rnd 8: Knit.

Rnd 9: *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd – 24 sts.

Rnd 10: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnds 11-12: Rep Rnd 10.

BO all sts loosely in est ribbing.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Steam block to measurements.
