Eponine Cardigan

This cardigan was inspired by a classic Aran sweater, but in a lighter weight with a modern cable pattern and offset front. Pair it with your favorite jeans and boots for a perfect fall outfit.

Time: 60 hr project.

Notions: Markers, removable markers, stitch holders, cable needle, tapestry needle, one 1.75” circular button, four 0.75” oblong buttons.

Abbreviations

2/2 LC: Slip 2 and hold in front, k2, k2 from cable needle.

2/2 LPC: Slip 2 and hold in front, p2, k2 from cable needle.

2/2/2 RPC: Slip 4 stitches to cable needle and hold in back, k2, slip the two leftmost stitches from cable needle back to left-hand needle and p2, k2 from cable needle.

2/2 RC: Slip 2 and hold in back, k2, k2 from cable needle.

2/2 RPC: Slip 2 and hold in back, p2, k2 from cable needle.

Left lifted increase (LLI): Insert your left needle from back to front underneath stitch two stitches below the next stitch on the right needle. Knit this stitch through the back loop and slip it off the needle.

Pf&b: Purl front & back.

Right lifted increase (RLI): Use your right needle to pull the knit stitch one row below the first stitch on your right needle, then place the stitch on the left needle, taking care to ensure it doesn’t slip over the stitch next to it. Then knit the stitch and slip it off the needle.

Note to Size 31.75 (smallest size): When instructions indicate you work “Small Right or Left Cable Chart working Repeat Section 0 times” you will work all 14 sts of this chart, but you will not work the repeat again.

Finishing

Set sleeves. Attach collar to neckline. Sew on all buttons.

Make crochet 2.5” crochet chains corresponding to oblong buttons and attach folded to make loop.

Weave in ends. Block to schematic measurements.
