Glimmer Beanie

Glimmer is a classic knit beanie with a twist: the addition of beads and jewels truly help it shine! The hat is worked in k2, p2 ribbing for optimal stretchiness. Add a pompom for extra pizazz!

4-5” negative ease recommended.

Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Ribbing after wet blocking

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 200 yards [182 meters]/100 grams): Charcoal (1 skein)

Needles: US size 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular, US size 7 (4.5mm) DPNs

Notions: Marker, tapestry needle, needle and thread, assorted beads and sew-on jewels

Special Stitches

K2 P2 Ribbing
Rnd 1: *P2, k2; rep from * to end.
Rep Rnd 1 for patt.

Pattern Notes

As this hat is worked in all rib, it’s very stretchy. Pick a size that gives the wearer at least 4” of negative ease.

Pattern

Using circular needles, CO 88 (96, 104) sts. Join to work in the rnd and PM for beginning of rnd
Work in K2 P2 Ribbing for 7.5 (7.75, 8)”.

Crown Decreases

Switch to DPNs when work becomes tight on circular.
Rnd 1: *P2, k2, p2, k2tog; rep from * to end. (11 (12, 13) sts dec’d; 77 (84, 91) sts)

Rnd 2: *P2, k2, p1, k2tog; rep from * to end. (66 (72, 78) sts)

Rnd 3: *P2, k2, k2tog; rep from * to end. (55 (60, 65) sts)

Rnd 4: *P2, k1, k2tog; rep from * to end. (44 (48, 52) sts)

Rnd 5: *P2, k2tog; rep from * to end. (33 (36, 39) sts)

Rnd 6: *P1, k2tog; rep from * to end. (22 (24, 26) sts)

Rnd 7: *K2tog; rep from * to end. (11 (12, 13) sts)

Break yarn and draw through remaining sts, cinching tight.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Block, stretching hat to 8.25 (9, 9.75)” wide at base.

Using needle and thread, sew beads and jewels to hat in a manner that pleases you. Be sure to anchor thread into knitting well so that beads are secure. If desired, put a small dot of Fray Check on thread ends on inside of hat for extra security.
