Cecily Toe Up Cable Socks

Inspired by windswept snowbanks, the Cecily socks feature a flowing, travelling cable pattern that runs up and down this classy design. There’s even a cute cabled detail at the back of each ankle for a unique twist!

Special Stitches

C4B: Sl 2 sts on cable needle and hold at back, knit next 2 sts from left hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle

C4F: Sl 2 sts on cable needle and hold at front, knit next 2 sts from left hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle

C4BP: Sl 2 sts on cable needle and hold at back, knit next 2 sts from left hand needle, then purl sts from cable needle

C4FP: Sl 2 sts on cable needle and hold at front, purl next 2 sts from left hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle

M1l: With left needle, pick up the bar between the sts from front to back, knit into the back of the lifted bar

M1r: With left needle, pick up the bar between the sts from back to front and knit into the front of the lifted bar

Pattern Notes

The pattern is written for magic loop but can easily be modified for double pointed needles. Needle A refers to instep sts and needle B to sole sts.

Toe

There are two options for the toe, plain stockinette and ribbed one, knit the one you prefer.

Set up row for both versions

Using Turkish Cast On or your preferred CO method, CO 24 sts, 12 sts for each needle.

Knit 1 rnd.

Plain Stockinette Toe

Rnd 1: *K1, M1r, k to 1 st before last st on needle A, M1l, k1; rep from * on needle B.

Rnd 2: Knit all sts.

Rep last 2 rnds 10 (12) times. (20 (24) sts inc’d per needle; 64 (72) sts total)

Ribbed Toe

The instructions below are for needle A only. On needle B work in St st and increase same as in the plain toe.

Heel

Note: There are two options for the heel, plain stockinette or ribbed heel. Work either one.

Optional cable on the back of the leg

Start cables on the back of the leg when you start working Rnd 8 the last pattern repeat on the front of the leg on needle A. On needle B, work Rnds 1-24, omitting cables in the middle on Rnds 22 and 24 as follows:

Cuff

Work Cuff as established for 1” / [2.5 cm] or desired length.

Finishing

BO loosely with your preferred stretchy bind off.

Break yarn leaving 10”/ [25 cm] tail.

Weave in ends and block.
