Mid Lake Boot Cuffs

The Mid Lake Boot Cuffs are the northwoods version of the Lattice Boot Cuff from the October 2016 issue. A band of watery blue lattice cables is framed by cabin red and brown stripes for cuffs that will add cozy charm to any fall outfit

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Toddler (Little Kid, Big Kid, Ladies’ Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large) to fit calf

circumference of 8 (9 1⁄2, 11 1⁄2, 13, 14, 16, 18)”
1” negative ease in kids’ sizes and 2” negative ease in adult sizes

Shown in Ladies’ Small.

Gauge: 24 sts and 30 rnds = 4” in Cable Pattern in the round after wet blocking, using larger needles.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards, [200 meters]/100 grams): C1: 863 Cordovan 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball, C2: 1922 Christmas Red Heather 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball, and Cascade 220 Superwash Effects (100% Superwash Wool; 220 yards, [200 meters]/100 grams): MC: 15 Stonewash 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball

Needles: US size 6 (4.0mm) and US size 7 (4.5mm): DPNs, or size needed to achieve gauge. Notions: Stitch markers; tapestry needle; cable needle

Special Stitches

C4B (Cable 4 back) – Sl2 sts to cn and hold in back, k2, k2 from cn.

C4F (Cable 4 front) – Sl2 sts to cn and hold in front, k2, k2 from cn. CP4B (Cable purl 4 back) – Sl2 sts to cn and hold in back, k2, p2 from cn. CP4F (Cable purl 4 front) – Sl2 sts to cn and hold in front, p2, k2 from cn.

Pattern Notes

Cables will give you a much tighter gauge than in stockinette. It is very important to get gauge in the Cable Pattern so your boot cuffs fit. Work your gauge swatch in the round and use a multiple of 6 sts for the swatch.

With smaller needles, C1, and using the Long Tail Cast-On method, CO 48 (54, 60, 64, 76, 86, 98) sts, place marker to indicate beginning of rnd.

Ribbing Rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.

Repeat Ribbing Rnd 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4) times.

Switch to C2, work Ribbing Rnd 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) times.

Switch to MC, work Ribbing Rnd 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1) times.

Switch to C2, work Ribbing Rnd 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) times.

Switch to C1, work Ribbing Rnd 3 (3, 3, 3, 3, 3) times.

Inc Rnd: Maint ribbing for one more rnd, increase 0 (0, 0, 2, 2, 4, 4) sts evenly around – 48 (54, 60, 66, 78, 90, 102) sts.

Cable Pattern

Switch to larger needles and MC.
Setup Rnd: *P2, k4; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 1: *P2, C4F; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: *P2, k4; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 3: K2, *k2, CP4F; rep from * to last 4 sts k2, CP4F.

Note: This includes the first 2 sts in the next rnd. Ensure marker is replaced in the middle of the last 4 sts worked.

Rnd 4: K2, *p2, k4; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Rnd 5: *C4B, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 6: *K4, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 7: K2, *k2, CP4B; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2, CP4B.
