Bow Tie Bonanza

Whether Dad is setting the trends himself or needs a little help with his fashion, knitting up a unique accessory for his formal wear is always a great gift option. You can adjust this pattern to fit his personal style by sampling different knit stitches and buttons with this easy, button-on bow tie set.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Bow tie band: 14” long x 1½” wide.

Gauge: 4.5 sts = 1” [2.5 cm] in St st.

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 210 yards [192 meters]/100 grams): 624 Coco, 1 ball

Needles: US size 8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; four 0.5” (13 mm) sew through or shank buttons; one 1” (25 mm) sew through or shank button

Bows

Double Andalusian Stitch

CO 10 sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Row 3: Rep Row 1.

Row 4: P1, *k2, p1; rep from * across.

Rep Rows 1-4 until Bow meas approx 8” long, ending after Row 4.

BO all sts in patt.

 

Sand Stitch

CO 9 sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.

Rep Rows 1-2 until Bow meas approx 8” long, ending after Row 2.

BO all sts in patt.

 

Mistake Rib Stitch

CO 12 sts.

Row 1: *K2, p2; rep from * across.

Row 2: *P1, k2, p1; rep from * across.

Rep Rows 1-2 until Bow meas approx 8” long, ending after Row 2.

Ribs and Boxes Stitch

CO 10 sts.

Row 1 (WS): Purl.

Row 2 (RS): Knit.

Garter Stitch Bow Tie

CO 6 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit.

Row 5: K3, BO 2, k1 – 4 sts.

Row 6: K1, kfb twice, k1 – 6 sts.

Rep Row 1 until Tie meas 3”.

BO all sts in patt.

 

Seed Stitch Bow Tie

CO 6 sts.

Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * across.

Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * across.

Rows 3-4: Rep Rows 1-2.

Row 5: K1, p1, k1, BO next st pwise, BO next st kwise, p1 – 4 sts.

Row 6: P1, kfb twice, k1 – 6 sts.

Rep Rows 1-2 until Tie meas 3”.

Seed Stitch Neckband

CO 9 sts.

Rows 1-4: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.

Row 5: (K1, p1) twice, BO 3 sts maint est patt, p1, k1 – 6 sts.

Row 6: K1, p1, kfb, M1, kfb, p1, k1 – 9 sts.

Rep Row 1 until Neckband meas 14” or desired length.

BO all sts in patt.

Pattern

Bows

Make one 8” Bow in each stitch patt.

BO with long yarn tail. With yarn needle, seam short edges together.

Make two Bows Ties in each stitch patt.

Bow Ties Assembly

Fold Bow Tie so that short edges are aligned. Position 0.5” (13 mm) button so that it will fit into buttonhole formed by Rows 5-6.

Sew on button and weave in ends.

Neckband

Work Neckband in stitch patt.

Fold Bow Tie so that short edges are aligned. Position 1” (25 mm) button so that it will fit into buttonhole formed by Rows 5-6. Sew on button and weave in ends.

Finishing

Spray block pieces if desired. Position Bow at center of Neckband.

Wrap Bow Tie over center of Bow and Band. Button closed. Position Neckband around neck. Button closed. yarn ball
