German short rows (DS-st)

After the turn, slip the first stitch with yarn in front. Then take yarn to the back of work. This makes two loops (Double Stitch) from the pulled, slipped stitch.

If the next stitch is a knit stitch, knit the stitch as you normally would.

If the next stitch is a purl stitch, bring the yarn back (the yarn will have gone around the needle from behind and back in front) and purl the next stitch.

When you find this DS-st in a subsequent row, knit as if it was one (like a k2tog/p2tog).

Decreasing I-cord bind-off

CO 3 sts, *[K2, k2tog tbl, sl3 sts onto LHN] 2 times, k3tog tbl, sl3 onto LHN; rep from * until 3 sts remain. BO with Kitchener st to the first 3 sts of the I-cord.

Top-to-Top seaming

Align the bound-off edges of each piece with the Right Sides facing you. Starting at one side slide your needle under both legs of the first knit stitch, just underneath the bound-off edge. Then repeat the same motion on the first stitch on the mirroring side. Work back and forth in this manner along the seam.

Pattern Notes

This design is worked top-down, beginning with shoulder triangles. Next, stitches are picked up along the larger edges, CO sts added to form the neckband, and the pieces are knitted flat until armscye. Front and back are then joined in the round and knitted until hem, where lower back is shaped by short-rows, and finished by an i-cord. A lace pattern panel is added to the front and back of the sweater.

Neckband is finished by picking-up sts and applying a similar i-cord as in the hem.

Pattern is written for size XS with larger sizes in parentheses.  If one number is written, it applies to all sizes.

Unless otherwise stated, markers are always slipped.
