Vivid Chevron Pillow

Vivid Chevron Pillow

This chevron pillow is a great way to play with color. Make all of the chevron motifs the same color or change each up to make it exactly your own. This is a fairly straightforward intarsia project (there’s no shaping, so you can focus on colorwork if that’s new to you) — just make sure to keep your floats nice and loose!

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Fits a 16” square pillow form

Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Cascade Yarns Cascade 220 (100% Peruvian Highland Wood; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): 9600 Antiqued Heather (MC, 2 balls), 7828 Neon Yellow (CC1, 1 ball), 9542 Blaze (CC2, 1 ball)

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight or circular

Notions: Markers, tapestry needle, pins, 16” pillow form

Pattern Notes

Before starting, make a separate little ball of about 15m off CC1.  This way you can have a separate ball of yarn for both chevrons on Rows 19 through Rows 36.

Pattern

Using MC, CO 67 sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Rep these 2 rows until piece meas 11.5” from cast-on edge.

Begin Main Side Chevron Chart

Work Main Side Chevron Chart, knitting the odd rows and purling the even rows.

Rep Rows 1-2 in MC until piece meas 27” from cast-on edge.

Begin Back Chevron Chart

Row 1: Work chart over 25 sts, pm, k to edge.

Row 2: P to marker, sm, work chart.

Rep these 2 rows until chevron chart is completed.

Continuing with MC only.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: Purl.

Rep these 2 rows until piece meas 31.5” from cast-on edge.

Knit 18 rows.

BO all sts.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Fold the pillow with wrong sides together at the point 11” from the cast on edge. Pin in place and sew side seams using the mattress stitch.

Fold the pillow with wrong sides together again, so that the edge of the garter section lines up with the cast on edge (the garter section will overlap with the first couple inches of knitting). Pin in place and sew edges.

Insert pillow. Baste opening closed.
