Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked flat in 2 pieces from end to end. The two ends are joined in the center with kitchener stitch and fringe is added to either short side using a small crochet hook.

Size will differ if created in a heavier yarn weight or by adding more repeats than recommended.

Sample has 5 repeats on each half of the scarf for 10 repeats total

Pattern

CO 64 sts.

Purl 1 row.

Work Rows 1-40 of Lace Stitch Pattern until Scarf meas half of desired total length.

Note: Be mindful that the scarf will be blocked both width and length wise. It may be helpful to pin it out after a repeat and measure to determine how many repeats you’ll want for each side.

Finishing

Using a tapestry needle, hold both ends of Scarf together with WS touching and RS facing out. Join one end to the other using kitchener st, being careful not to seam too tightly. Give the joined fabric a little tug now and again to make sure it’s keeping loose.

Pin dry Scarf out to desired width and length, keeping the short ends flat and using one pin for each bud, pulling them out a little to create a ripple effect. Using lukewarm water, spray Scarf and allow to dry.

While Scarf is drying or after, attach fringe using crochet hook. To cut the fringe, choose a piece of cardboard that is the desired length of your fringe. Sample has 4” long fringe. Wrap yarn loosely around the cardboard 3 times and cut. Go in from top to bottom and pull up the 3 loops of your cut string. Then, grab the tails and pull them through the loop. Pull tight. Cut the dangling end of the fringe in order to separate the loops and end up with 6 strings hanging. Repeat along the edge of Scarf. For the sample, a fringe is placed in every other CO st.
