Blue Surf Shawl

Reminiscent of bubbles on the surf, this is the shawl you’ll wear well into the summer. Knitted in one piece, this pattern is adaptable in length as well. The lace pattern needs attention as it is worked on wrong side rows as well.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 74.8” / [190 cm] x 34.6” / [88 cm] x 59” / [150 cm]

Gauge: 17 sts and 22 rows = 4“ [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, but it will affect the finished measurements and amount of yarn needed.

Materials

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Heritage 150 Solid (75% Wool, 25% Nylon; 492 yards [450 meters]/150 grams): 5704 Dusty Turquoise (1 skein)

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight or circular”

Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker

Abbreviations

K4tog – knit 4 together

P2tog tbl (purl 2 stitches together through back loop) – Slip 1 kwise, slip1 kwise, slip2 stitches back to left needle,  purl together through back loop

Rm – remove marker

Sl1k, k4tog, psso – slip 1 kwise, knit 4 stitches together, pass slipped stitch over

Sm – Slip marker

Special Stitches

2/2LC (2/2 left cross cable, worked on wrong side)

Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and place at front of work, p2, then p2 from cable needle.

The shawl is worked in one piece. The pattern is easily adaptable in length. The lace pattern needs attention as it is worked on the wrong side rows as well.

Pattern

Using the Knitted Cast-on method, CO 3 sts.

Start working in Lace Pattern following the chart or written instruction.

Work Rows 1-34 of Lace Pattern. On Row 35, place marker after stitch 28 (green line on the Chart).

Cont working in Lace Pattern, working Rows 37-44 (framed in red in the chart) 25 times total, decreasing and increasing after the marker as indicated.

Work Rows 45-47.

Note: There are no decreases after the marker on Row 47.

Border

Work Border Pattern Rows 48-54.

Note: The Lace Panel on the right side continues as before after the marker, finishing off the body of the shawl. Repeat pattern in blue frame in the chart 13 times per row.

Finishing

Finish with Elastic Cast off.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Soak the shawl in wool wash detergent and block using blocking wires or pin it on a flat surface.

Let the Shawl dry out completely before removing from blocking device.
