Cotton Candy Top

This is a light summer raglan top with short sleeves and open back neckline. Tied up with a bow, this top is ready to go on all your summer adventures!

Skill level: Intermediate

Gauge: 18.5 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Lace pattern after blocking

16 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Mesh pattern after blocking

Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) to fit bust 30 (33¾, 37¾, 41¾, 46, 50)” [76 (86, 96, 106, 117, 127) cm]

Materials

Yarn:

light weight yarn Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima (100% Pima Cotton; 220 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): 3736 Ice, 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7) skeins.

Needles: US size 6 (4 mm): circulars and DPNs

Notions: 4 markers (one another color); 2 stitch holders; tapestry needle; scrap yarn.

st (sts) – stitch (stitches)

k – knit

p – purl

yo – yarn over

ssk – slip, slip, knit (1 st decreased)

k2tog – knit next two sts together

W&T – bring working yarn to front of work, slip next st on RN, bring working yarn to back, “wrapping” this slipped stitch, slip stitch from RN back to LN, turn work

“wrapped st” – a stitch, that has been slipped and “wrapped” when you did W&T

k3tog – knit next 3 sts together

sssk – slip, slip, slip, knit (2 sts decreased)

Pattern

Left Sleeve

*CO 38 (44, 48, 52, 58, 66) sts.

Work in St st for 3 rows, beg with a purl row.

Next Row (RS): BO 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts for underarm, k to end.

Next Row (WS): BO 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) sts for underarm, p to end – 30 (36, 40, 42, 48, 54) sts.

Beg working Mesh Pattern and Shape Raglan as folls, beginning with Row 5 (7, 3, 7, 1, 5):

Row 1 (RS): K3, *yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.

Row 3 (Raglan Dec): K2, k3tog, *k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 5 sts, sssk, k2 – 4 sts dec’d;

Row 5 (RS): K3, *yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 7 (RS): K3, *k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 8 (WS): Purl.

Work Rows 1-8 of Mesh Pattern for 3 (4, 4, 5, 6, 6) full repeats. There should be 28 (34, 38, 42, 48, 52) rows total worked in Mesh Pattern ** – 18 (20, 24, 22, 24, 30) sts on the needles.

Next Row 1 (RS): K3, *yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, W&T.
Next Rows 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 (WS): Purl.
Next Row 3: K2, k3tog, *k2tog, yo; rep from * to 2 sts to last wrapped st, W&T – 2 sts dec’d.
Next Row 5: K3, *yo, ssk; rep from * to 2 sts to last wrapped st, W&T.
Next Row 7: K3, *k2tog, yo; rep from * to 4 sts to last wrapped st, W&T.

Next Row 11: Knit.

Cut thread leaving 12” [30 cm] tail (to sew raglan seam), place live sts on a stich holder and set aside.

Right Sleeve

Work as Left Sleeve from * to ** – 18 (20, 24, 22, 24, 30) sts on the needles.

Next Row 1 (RS): K3, *yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Next Row 2 (WS): P to last 3 sts, W&T.
Next Row 3: *K2tog, yo; rep from * to last 5 sts, sssk, k2 – 2 sts dec’d.
Next Rows 4, 6, and 8: P to 3 sts to last wrapped st, W&T.
Next Row 5: K1, *yo, ssk; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Next Row 7: *K2tog, yo; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Next Row 9: Same as Next Row 5.
Next Row 10: P3, W&T.
Next Row 11: Knit.

Cut thread leaving a 12” [30 cm] tail, place live sts on stitch holder and set aside.

Body

Using Cable Cast-On method, CO 142 (158, 178, 194, 218, 234) sts, join in rnd, pm using a contrast colored marker for beg rnd.

Purl 1 rnd.

Next Rnd: K57 (71, 71, 85, 99, 99), pm, k14 (8, 18, 12, 10, 18), pm, k57 (71, 71, 85, 99, 99), pm, k14 (8, 18, 12, 10, 18), sm.

Next Rnd 1: *Work Border Chart A once, work Border Chart B 3 (4, 4, 5, 6, 6) times, work Border Chart C once, sm, k14 (8, 18, 12, 10, 18), sm; rep from * once more.

Next Rnd 2: Knit.

Rep last 2 rows 3 times more.

Beg working Body Lace Charts as follows:

Rnd 1: *Work Lace Body Chart A once, work Lace Body Chart B 3 (4, 4, 5, 6, 6) times, work Lace Body Chart C once, sm, k14 (8, 18, 12, 10, 18), sm; rep from * once more.
Rnd 2: Knit

Rep last 2 rnds until Lace Body Charts have been worked twice total.

Dividing for Front and Back

Upper Front

Turn work on WS.

Purl 1 row.

Next Row (RS): K11 (8, 12, 9, 8, 11), work Upper Front Chart A once, work Upper Front Chart B 2 (3, 3, 4, 5, 5) times, work Upper Front Chart C once, k to end of row.

Next Row (WS): Purl.

Now you will work Upper Front Charts as follows:

Row 1 (RS): K3, k3tog, k5 (2, 6, 3, 2, 5), work Upper Front Chart, k to last 6 sts, sssk, k3 – 4 sts dec’d.
Row 2 (WS): Purl.

Right Front

Cut thread and place live sts on a stitch holder.

Upper Back

With RS facing, rejoin yarn and work across back sts as folls:

Next Row (RS): BO 8 (8, 10, 10, 10, 12) sts, k3 (0, 4, 1, 0, 3) sts, sm, work Body Lace Chart A once, work Body Lace Chart B 3 (4, 4, 5, 6, 6) times, work Body Lace Chart C once, sm, k to end row.

Mark back central st with two contrast markers.

Next Row (WS): BO 8 (8, 10, 10, 10, 12) sts, p3 (0, 4, 1, 0, 3), sm, p to m, sm, yo, k1, yo, sm, p to m, sm, p to end of row – 65 (73, 81, 89, 101, 107) sts.

Divide for Left and Right Upper Back

Right Upper Back

Next Row (RS): K3, k2tog, k6 (4, 7, 4, 3, 6), work Right Upper Back Chart once, k to 3 st before m, k2tog, pm, p1, remove next m, k1, m1, place rem unworked sts on scrap yarn.

Work Right Upper Back only as follows:

Turn work.

Row 1 (WS): P to m, sm, k1, p1, k1.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1, k1, p1, sm, ssk, k4 (10, 10, 3, 10, 10), work Left Upper Back Chart once, k to end of row – 1 st dec’d.
Row 3 (WS): Same as Row 1.

Neckline Binding

Sew raglan seams. Place Left Back, Left Sleeve, Front, Right Sleeve, and Right Back live neckline sts in this sequence on needles.

With RS facing and beg at Left Back, go on as follows:

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, k1, p2tog, turn work – 1 st dec’d.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1 wyif, p1, k1.

Rep last 2 rows until you have 5 sts on the needles left.

Next Row 1 (RS): Sl1, p3tog, turn work – 2 sts dec’d.
Next Row 2 (WS): Sl1 wyif, k1.
Next Row 3 (RS): p3tog – 2 sts dec’d.

BO last st, cut thread.

Straps (make 2)

CO 3 sts.

Work I-cord as follows:

Row 1: K3, transfer 3 sts back to LN.

Rep last row until I-cord measures 11¾ (12½, 13¼, 14, 15, 15¾)” [30 (32, 34, 36, 38, 40) cm].

BO all sts. Cut thread leaving 6” [15 cm] tail.

Finishing

Sew Straps to Left and Right Back as on a modeled photo.

Weave in the ends. Wet-block to measurements.

    I can’t find the Upper left back and Right upper back charts. Also, a bit confused about the “L Chart. I’m knitting the size large and I’m stuck after completing the body chart. Please help!! LOVE the pattern!
