Special Stitches

Knit Front and Back (Kfb): Knit into the front and back of next stitch. (1 st increased)

Left Twist (LT): Worked on RS rows. Skip the first stitch on left-hand needle and knit the second stitch through the back loop, then knit the first stitch through the front loop. Slip both stitches off needle together.

Right Twist (RT): Worked on WS rows. Skip the first stitch on left-hand needle and purl into the second stitch, then purl into the first stitch. Slip both stitches off needle together.

3-Needle Bind-Off: Hold right sides of pieces facing each other together, with one needle in front of the other. Knit the first stitch from each needle together. Knit the next st from both needles together. Pull the second stitch on right-hand needle over the first and off needle. Repeat to last stich, as in a Traditional BO. Break yarn and pull through last stitch.

One-Row Buttonhole:

Step 1: With yarn in front, slip 1 stitch. Bring yarn to back of work.

Step 2: Slip the nest stich. Bind off 1 stitch by brining the second stitch on right-hand needle over the first stitch and off needle.

Step 3: Repeat step 2, two more times.

Step 4: Slip first stitch on right-hand needle back to left-hand needle.

Step 5: Turn work to WS. Insert right-hand needle in-between the first 2 stitches on left-hand needle. Wrap yarn around needle, pull through a loop, and place on left-hand needle, as in a cable cast on.  Repeat step 3, three more times, bringing yarn to the front before placing the last st on needle.

Step 6: Turn work back to RS. Yarn will be in back. Slip the first stitch on left-hand needle to right-hand needle. Bind this stitch off by lifting the second stitch on right-hand needle over the first stitch and off needle. Slip stitch back to left hand needle. The last stitch slipped back to left hand needle will be worked normally when knitting resumes.

An online tutorial for the one-row buttonhole can be found here.

Pattern Notes

This sweater is knit flat from the bottom up. The slightly cropped style is easily customizable by adding more length before dividing at the underarms. Please be aware that any changes to length will affect yardage requirements.

When decreasing for the neck shaping and sleeves, if there are not two stitches available to complete a twist, knit the one stitch in St st. Be sure to keep the selvedge stitch in place along the neckline.

Pattern includes 1 St st selvedge stitch on each front edge which is not included in the finished measurements.

    • Hi Kathy,
I do apologize, I know the yarn used in the pattern is pretty expensive. If you find a substitute and have doubts as to whether or not it will work, please feel free to reach out to me on Ravelry, or email – Morn5420@yahoo.com. I hope you find one!
