Raina Fringe Sweater

The highlight of this funnel-neck sweater with a straight loose silhouette and drop-shoulder billow sleeves, is the intriguing center panel of cables that form diamonds and leaves, with a fringe at each side of the panel. The back, sleeves and sides of the front are worked in quadruple moss stitch, constructing a delicate texture.

Special Stitches

Semi-tubular 1×1 Ribbing:

Row 1 (RS): K1 (edge st), [k1, p1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Row 2 (WS): K1 (edge st), [yfwd and sl1p, yarn back and k1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Rep Rows 1-2 for pattern.

Quadruple Moss Stitch (multiple of 2 sts +2)

Row 1 (RS): K1 (edge st), [k1, p1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Row 2: K1 (edge st), [k1, p1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Rows 3-4: Rep Rows 1-2.

Row 5: K1 (edge st), [p1, k1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Row 6: K1 (edge st), [p1, k1] across to last st, k1 (edge st).

Rows 7-8: Rep Rows 5-6.

Rep Rows 1-8 for pattern.

Loop Stitch:

On RS: Insert your needle kwise in the next st on LH needle, wrap the yarn clockwise and bring it forward between the two needles. Place your thumb on top of the yarn and bring it back between needles. Without releasing either loop, knit the stitch again. Then, pass the first st over the stitch you just knitted and off the needle. Purl the st on WS.

Sloped BO

To prevent “stair steps” from forming between subsequent BO rows, use the sloped BO method as following: On the first BO row, bind off as usual to define the initial part of the slope. Work the next row to the last st, but do not work the last st. Turn work so that the unworked st becomes the first st on the RH needle. Sl the first st on the LH needle pwise, then BO the unworked st by lifting it over the sl st and off the needle.

Pattern Notes

The garment is worked back and forth from the bottom-up in separate pieces and seamed.

During shaping, if there are not enough stitches to work each cable, work remaining stitches in Stockinette stitch.
