Caylen Cabled Infinity Scarf

Caylen is a project to work on while you listen to your favorite show. The cable repeat is easy to memorize and the length can be customized to your linking. Wear it as a regular scarf or button it up and transform it to an infinity scarf — the choice is yours!

Time: Weekend Project

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Approx. 5½” wide x 60” long

Gauge: 36 sts and 34 rows = 4” [10 cm] in cable pattern after wet blocking. Gauge is not important for this project.

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Malabrigo Mechita (100% superwash Merino wool; 420 yards [384 meters]/100 grams): MTA009 Polar Morn (1 ball)

Hook/Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm) straight needles

Notions: Cable needle, tapestry needle, four 12 mm buttons

Abbreviations

kfb – knit into front and back of same st (1 st increased)

pfb – purl into front and back of same st (1 st increased)

Special Stitches

3-st left purl cable (3-st LPC): Sl 2 sts to cn and hold to front of work, p1, k2 from cn.

3-st right purl cable (3-st RPC): Sl 1 st to cn and hold to back of work, k2, p1 from cn.

4-st left cable (4-st LC): Sl 2 sts to cn and hold to front of work, k2, k2 from cn.

4-st right cable (4-st RC): Sl 2 sts to cn and hold to back of work, k2, k2 from cn.

Ribbing

Row 1 (RS): K6, [p4, k4] 4 times, p4, k6.

Row 2: K4, p2, [k4, p4] 4 times, k4, p2, k4.

Rows 3-12: Rep Rows 1-2 five times.

Body

Row 1 (RS): K4, [3-st LPC, p2, 3-st RPC] 5 times, k4.

Row 2: K5, [p2, k2] 9 times, p2, k5.

Row 3: K4, p1, [3-st LPC, 3-st RPC, p2] 4 times, 3-st LPC, 3-st RPC, p1, k4.

Row 4: K6, [p4, k4] 4 times, p4, k6.

Row 5: K4, p2, [4-st LC, p4] 4 times, 4-st LC, p2, k4.

Row 6: Rep Row 4.

Row 8: K2, CO 1 st, p2, *k4, p4, k1, CO 1 st, k1*, p4, rep from * to *, p4, k4, p2, CO 1 st, k2. (4 buttonholes made; 44 sts)

Row 9: K2, kfb, k2, *p4, k4, p1, pfb, p1*, k4, rep from * to *, k4, p4, k2, kfb, k2. (48 sts)

Row 10: Rep Ribbing Row 2.

Rows 11-12: Rep Ribbing Rows 1-2 once.

BO in pattern.

Finishing

Sew buttons opposite buttonholes on the other ribbing edge. Weave in ends and block.
