Wee-B-Little Pumpkins

New knitters can create their own mini collection of Wee-B-Little pumpkins in traditional orange or a rainbow of heirloom colors. Knit a rectangle and seam it together to form a tiny pumpkin. Accent it with a twig for a bit of natural whimsy to decorate your home.

What is a Wee-B-Little Pumpkin? Wee-B-Little, or Jack Be Little Pumpkins are the size of your palm when fully matured. They come in different colors – including white – which are also known as “Baby Boos.”

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Caron Simply Soft (100% Acrylic; 315 yards (288 meters)/170.1 grams): Persimmon (1 skein), Light Country Peach (1 skein), Taupe (1 skein), Blackberry (1 skein), Soft Pink (1 skein), Light Country Blue (1 skein), Sage (1 skein)

Needles: Size 5 (3.75 mm) 10″ needles

Notions: Polyester fiberfill, 2″ length of twig, tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

Gourd is made by knitting a rectangle in rows. The ends are joined and the sides are cinched to form a mini pumpkin.

Main Color is any color you want the gourd to be.

Mini Gourd

With MC, CO 10 sts.

Rows 1, 3, and 4: K across, turn. (10 sts)

Row 2: P across, turn.

Rep Rows 1-4, 7 more times.

Rep Rows 1-3 once more.

BO all sts.

Curly Q

CO 10 sts.

Rows 1: K1, *yo, k1; rep from * across.

BO all sts.

Assembly

Fold project in half so last and first rows are aligned. Join with whip st across. You now have a cylinder.

With a strand of MC, pick up the ends of the rows on one side of the cylinder and cinch tight. Tie a knot and weave in end. This is the bottom of the gourd.

Stuff gourd lightly.

With a strand of MC, pick up the ends of the rows on opposite side of the cylinder and cinch tight. Insert twig in center of cinched hole. Tie a knot and weave in ends. This is the top of the gourd.

If you want a slight indent at the center near the twig, use another strand of MC and run it from the bottom center of the gourd to the top center and back to the bottom. Pull strand tight to cinch along the stem.

Attach Curly Q with tails.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
