Blue Echeveria Shoulder Bag

A quick and fun knit, this stylish bag is perfect for keeping your necessities within your reach at all times. Based on the original Eucalyptus Clutch, this bag features a taller body and an I-cord strap.

Time: Day Project

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 10.5” [27 cm] x 10” [25 cm]

Gauge: 22 sts and 37 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino wool; 300 yards [274 meters]/100 grams): 412 Teal Feather (2 balls)

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight and dpns / circular needles

Notions: Magnetic clasp, thick cord for handles (40” [100 cm] long or more), fabric for lining (11”[28 cm] x 29”[74 cm]), fusible interfacing (11”[28 cm] x 29”[74 cm]), felt fabric (10”[25 cm] x 8”[20 cm]), tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Trellis Pattern

Row 1: *K2, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *P1, p2tog tbl, yo, p1, yo, p2tog, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 3: *K2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl 1, k1, psso; rep from * to end.

Row 4: Purl.

Row 5: *Yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k5; rep from * to end.

Row 6: *Yo, p2tog, p2, p2tog tbl, yo, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 7: *K2, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end.

Row 8: Purl.

Rep Rows 1-8 for patt.

Pattern

CO 57 sts.
Rows 1-4: K all sts.

Work Trellis Pattern following the chart or written instructions.
Rows 5-68: K4, work Trellis Pattern 7 times over 49 sts, k4.

Note: Trellis pattern is worked for 64 rows, 8 repeats.

Rows 69-71: K all sts.

Row 72: K4, p49, k4.

Rep Rows 71-72 until the back meas 10” / [25 cm].

Work Rows 69-70, then Rows 71-72 until front meas 9.5” / [24 cm].

Next 4 Rows: K all sts.
BO all sts.

Strap

On dpns / circular needles, CO 5 sts.

Row 1: K all sts.

Slide the sts over to the other end of the needle. Lay the cord over on the needle over the sts and start knitting an I-cord. Knit the first stitch over the cord, then knit the rest of the sts.

Repeat until the the strap measure 36” [91 cm] or desired length. BO all sts and cut off the excess inner cord.

Finishing

Block the clutch before joining the body.

Mattress stitch the sides of the body together, leaving 0.5”(1 cm) at the top unattached. Sew each end of the strap at the sides, in between the front and back of the bag.

For the lining, follow the same instructions as for lining the clutch.
