Around the Block Carrier Blanket

In the summer, there’s no need for heavy baby blankets. This small and light blanket is perfect for keeping little legs warm in the air conditioned car and a little coverage from the sun if needed! Featuring bold-colored blocks offset with white and gray, this blanket is modern and gender neutral.

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Red Heart Baby Hugs (100% Acrylic; 247 yards [226 meters]/127 grams): White (MC, 1 hank), Pool (C1, 1 hank), Sunny (C2, 1 hank), Dolphin (C3, 1 hank), Peachie (C4, 1 hank), Pinkie (C5, 1 hank), Blueberry (C6, 1 hank)

Needles: US size 11 (8 mm) straight

Notions: Tapestry Needle, cable needles

Pattern Notes

Make 12 blocks according to color placement. Each block is worked the same with colors change. Blocks are numbered Color A, B, C and change according to Row and Block Color Notes.

Color Notes
Row 1: Center, Color 2, Color 3.

Block 1: C1, C2, MC.
Block 2: C3, C6, MC.
Block 3: C4, C5, MC.

Row 2:
Block 4: C6, C4, MC.
Block 5: C5, C2, MC.
Block 6: C3, C1, MC.

Row 3:
Block 7:
C3, C5, MC.
Block 8: C4, C1, MC.
Block 9: C2, C6, MC.

Row 4:
Block 10:
C2, C4, MC.
Block 11: C6, C5, MC.
Block 12: C1, C3, MC.

Pattern

Block (make 12)

Center
Using A, CO 9.

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl
Rows 3-10: Rep Rows 1-2.
Row 11: BO all sts kwise.

2nd Color: *Turn block ¼ turn.
Row 1: Using ends of rows, pick up sts along edge.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: BO all sts kwise. Do not fasten off until last side has been completed.
Rep from * on each rem side.

3rd Color: Rep from * on each side.

Wet block each Block before joining.

Using the tapestry needle, sew the Blocks together with whip stitch.

Border: Join C3 on any corner with right side up.
Row 1: Using ends of rows, pick up sts along edge.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Rows 4-5: Rep Rows 2-3.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: BO all sts kwise. Do not fasten off until last side has been completed.

Turn blanket ¼. Rep Rows 1-7 until all sides have been completed.

Finishing

Weave all remaining ends.
