DS-st: Double Stitches short row (=German short row) After the turn, slip the first stitch with yarn in front. Then take yarn to the back of work. This makes two loops (Double Stitch) from the pulled, slipped stitch. When you find this DS-st in a subsequent row, knit or purl as if it was one (like a k2tog or p2tog).

Provisional Cast-On: Using scrap yarn, create a crochet chain with few stitches more than the number of stitches you wish to cast on. Break yarn and knot the end. Turn crochet chain to the wrong side (the side with bumps on it). Using the yarn intended for your knitting project, insert a knitting needle into the first bump of your crochet chain, wrap your yarn, and draw up a stitch. Continue to cast on a stitch into each bump of your crochet chain until you have cast on the appropriate number of stitches. When you need to access your cast on stitches, carefully un-knot the end of your crochet chain and “unzip” the entire cast on. https://www.ilikeknitting.com/magazine/knitting-tips-and-tutorials/provisional-cast-on-photo-tutorial/

Pattern Notes

This sweater is knit flat, in one piece starting at the front with a provisional cast-on to allow a similar finishing for both hem ribbings. First the lower front body is worked up to the beginning of the split for the v-neck, then sides are worked separately over the shoulders to the back where they will rejoin to work the lower back body in one piece. Sleeves are cast-on and bound off on the same rows as the v-neck split/join and shaped with short-rows. Side and sleave seams are finished from the right side for a decorative accent.

For the short rows, the German/double stitches method is given; however, any short row method (as the Wrap & Turn) (https://www.ilikeknitting.com/magazine/knitting-articles-and-interviews/short-rows-tutorial/) can also be used.

Left and right sides refer to how the garment is worn on the body.

    Dear Martha,
Take into account that this is the short-row section. Thus sts numbers refer to the ones actually worked. You will have the remaining ones on hold until the end of the V-neck sides. I hope I clarified your doubts! Happy knitting!-Cristina
