Ella Pullover

Ella is a sweet pullover with intricate hem and sleeve details. The body is worked in the round from the bottom up until after the waistband, where it is split and worked back and forth. Sleeves are worked in the round, from the bottom up.

Materials

Notions: Seven 5/8” button, removable stitch markers, tapestry needle

Abbreviations

W&TWrap and turn. RS: With yarn in back, slip next st to right-hand needle, bring yarn to front, slip st back to left-hand needle, turn piece to cont working in the other direction for next row; WS: With yarn in front, slip next st to right-hand needle, bring yarn to back, slip st back to left-hand needle, turn piece to cont working in the other direction for next row.

Special Stitches

Left lifted increase (LLI): Insert your left needle from back to front underneath stitch two stitches below the next stitch on the right needle. Knit this stitch through the back loop, and slip it off the needle.

Right lifted increase (RLI): Use your right needle to pull the knit stitch one row below the first stitch on your right needle, then place the stitch on the left needle, taking care to ensure it doesn’t slip over the stitch next to it. Then knit the stitch and slip it off the needle.

Pattern Notes

Body and sleeves begin with working a lace panel sideways to form a ring. Then stitches are picked up along the lace panel to work the piece in the round from the bottom up.

Using a provisional cast-on, CO 27 sts.

Setup Row (WS): Purl.

Rows 1-14: Work Rows 1-14 of Lace Chart.

Rep Rows 1-14 until piece measures 32 (36.25, 40, 44.25, 48)(53.5, 56, 59.75, 64)”, ending with Row 7 or 14.

Place provisional CO sts onto 2nd needle. Holding WS tog, use Kitchener Stitch to connect ends to form a ring, being careful not to twist work.

Sleeve Lace Panels

Using a provisional cast-on, CO 27 sts.

Setup Row (WS): Purl.

Rows 1-14: Work Rows 1-14 of Lace Chart.

Rep Rows 1-14 until piece measures 9.5 (10.25, 10.25, 10.25, 11)(11, 11, 11.75, 11.75)”, ending with Row 7 or 14.

Place provisional CO sts onto 2nd needle. Holding WS tog, use Kitchener Stitch to connect ends to form a ring, being careful not to twist work.

Body

Starting at Kitchener Join, with RS facing, pick up 208 (236, 260, 288, 312)(348, 364, 388, 416) sts along the top edge of Body Lace Panel, pm for beg of rnd. Pm after 104 (118, 130, 144, 156)(174, 182, 194, 208) sts to mark side “seam”.

Finishing

Neck Edging:

Place Front and Back sts back on needles.

With RS held tog, use 3-needle BO to join first 5 (6, 10, 13, 14)(14, 13, 14, 13) sts from armhole edge for both shoulders.

Gently sew bottom of underflap of Left Back behind Right Back.

Attach yarn to WS of neckline at Right Back.

Row 1 (WS): Knit across Right Back sts, knit across Front sts, knit across Left Back sts. (144 (148, 152, 156, 156)(160, 164, 168, 172) sts)

Row 2: Knit.

BO all sts.

Set in sleeves. Attach buttons evenly spaced on top of the Right Back placket, sewing through both thicknesses. Weave in ends. Block to measureme
