High Tide Tasseled Shawl

This shawl is right at home on your shoulders as you walk along the boardwalk on a cool morning at the beach. Combining a gradient yarn with a neutral gives this shawl tide-like stripes that will make you want to watch the tide come in.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 66” wide x 18.5” deep (not including 4” fringe)

Gauge: 17 sts and 36 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Garter St after wet blocking

Materials

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Knit Picks Stroll Gradient (75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 458 yards [419 meters]/100 grams): 27377 Spacewalk (MC, 1 cake); Knit Picks Stroll Fingering (75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 462 yards [422 meters]/100 grams): 23852 Bare (CC, 1 skein)

Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm) 24” straight or circular

Notions: Markers (optional), tapestry needle, US size 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook

Abbreviation

Kfb – Knit into the front and back of next stitch.

This pattern is worked sideways, increasing and then decreasing on one edge.

Increase Section

With MC, CO 4 sts.

Row 1: K1, kfb, k to end of row. (5 sts)

Row 2: Knit

Rows 3-28: Rep Rows 1-2, 13 more times. (18 sts)

Rows 29-36: With CC, rep Rows 1-2, 4 times. (22 sts)

Rows 37-64: With MC, rep Rows 1-2, 14 times. (36 sts)

Rep Rows 29-64, 4 more times, then Rows 29-36 once more. (112 sts)

Even Section

With CC, knit 8 rows.

Decrease Section

Row 1: With CC, k1, ssk, k to end of row. (111 sts)

Row 2: Knit

Rows 3-28: Rep Rows 1-2, 3 more times. (108 sts)

Rows 29-36: With MC, rep Rows 1-2, 14 times. (94 sts)

Rows 37-64: With CC, rep Rows 1-2, 4 times. (90 sts)

Rep Rows 29-64, 4 more times, then Rows 29-36. (4 sts)

BO all sts in patt.

Finishing

Weave in all end. Block as desire.

Tassel

With CC, cut 8” lengths of yarn.

With RS facing, 2 strands held together and using a crochet hook, place Tassel at the ends at each color change, and then evenly space between MC color change.

Trim as ends needed.

          Hello! Sorry for the delay. If you can provide additional information that would be great: basically for the decrease section, you are working the decrease on the same side as the increase following the same color sequence as for the increase section. Hope this helps! – Nicola, Editor

            Sorry you could not get the corrections for me. I will figure something out myself.

            It is obvious that the instructions here are wrong. The pattern states Rows 3-28 Repeat rows 1-3 3 more times. with 108 stitches remaining. So I think this should be Rows 3-8 Repeat rows 1-2 3 more times. This then continues to the end with the number of rows not matching the number of repeats called for. and the number of remaining stitches not matching.
