Brianne Basket Weave Wrap

Brianne is a gorgeous wrap worked in a slip stitch pattern that creates a look of basket weave. The fringe-like edging adds to the beauty of the design.

Size: Approx. 54″ x 15″

Gauge: 18 sts and 18 ridges = 4” [10 cm] in Garter st after wet blocking

Materials

Fine weight yarnYarn: Plymouth Linaza Hand Dyed (50% Alpaca, 25% Linen, 25% Tencel; 440 yards [402 meters]/100 grams): 4 mauve/pink/orange (4 balls doubled up)

Needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) straight

Notions: Tapestry needle, waste yarn for provisional cast-on

Abbreviations

Sl2wyib: Slip 2 sts with yarn in back

Sl2wyif: Slip 2 sts with yarn in front

Pattern Notes

The edging will be worked perpendicular to the edge of the shawl. Every 2 rows of the edging will bind off 1 edge stitch.

Pattern

Provisionally CO 80 sts.

Rows 1-4: With working yarn, sl1wyif, knit to end.

Row 5 (RS): Knit.

Row 6: K5, p70, k5.

Rows 7, 9: K6, *sl2wyib, k4; rep from * to last 8 sts, sl2wyib, k6.

Rows 8, 10: K6, *sl2wyif, k4; rep from * to last 8 sts, sl2wyif, k6.

Row 11: Knit.

Row 12: K5, p70, k5.

Rows 13, 15: K9, *sl2wyib, k4; rep from * to last 5 sts, k5.

Rows 14, 16: K9, *sl2wyif, k4; rep from * to last 5 sts, k5.

Rep Rows 5-16 until piece meas 48”. Do not bind off. Cut yarn leaving a 4” tail.

Border

CO 6 sts.

Hold the right side of the shawl facing you.

The edging will be worked perpendicular to the edge of the shawl. Every 2 rows of the edging will bind off 1 edge stitch.

Rows 1, 3: Knit to last st, k2tog the last st of edging with the next st on the shawl body.

Rows 2, 4: Sl1wyib, knit.

Row 5: CO 3 sts, knit to last st, k2tog.

Rows 6, 8: Sl1wyib, knit.

Row 7: CO 3 sts, knit to last st, k2tog.

Rows 9, 11, 13, 15: Sl1wyib, knit to last st, k2tog.

Rows 10, 12, 14, 16: Sl1wyib, knit.

Row 17: BO 3 sts, knit to last st, k2tog.

Rows 18, 20: Sl1wyib, knit.

Row 19: BO 3 sts, knit to last st, k2tog.

Rep Rows 1-20 for patt.

Take out the provisional cast-on at the beginning of the wrap. Place all sts on the knitting needle and work the edging at the edge same as above.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block wrap to size.
