Don’t be intimidated by a bold, plaid pattern! This Bonfire Plaid Blanket is surprisingly simple to create. Using an easy rectangular shape, watch as slip stitches and horizontal garter stripes come together to create a delightful plaid pattern right before your eyes.

Size: 27.5” x 39”

Gauge: 20.5 sts and 40 rows = 4” [10 cm] in main stitch after wet blocking

Gauge is not crucial for project but might affect amount of yarn required.

Materials

Yarn: Miss Babs Yowza (100% Super Wash Merino Wool; 560 yards [512 meters]/225 grams): Fire Ball (MC, 2 skeins), Pewter (CC, 1 skein)

Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm) 60” or longer circular

Yrn: yarn round needle

Special Stitches

Sewn BO method

Cut the working yarn to about 3 times as long as your finished piece of knitting. Thread that yarn onto tapestry needle. *Pass the tapestry needle through the first two sts from right to left. Pass the tapestry needle through the first st on the knitting needle from left to right. Drop the first st off the knitting needle. Repeat from * until one st remains. Sew through this last st from right to left.

With CC, CO 132 sts

Work 6 rows in Garter stitch (knit all sts), ending with RS row.

Body

Set up Row (WS): Sl 1, k2, *k1 wrapping yrn twice, k4; rep from * to last 4 sts, k1 wrapping yrn twice, k2, p1.

Switch to MC.

Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 (RS): Sl 1, k2, *sl 1 wyib, k4; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl 1 wyib, k2, p1.

Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8 (WS): Sl 1, k2, *sl 1 wyif, k;4; rep from * to last 4 sts, sl 1 wyif, k2, p1.

Switch to CC.

Row 9: Sl 1, k to last st, p1.

Row 10: Sl 1, k2, *k1 wrapping yrn twice, k4; rep from * to last 4 sts, k1 wrapping yrn twice, k2, p1.

Switch to MC.

Rep Rows 1-10, 37 more times.

Work Rows 1-8 once more.

Switch to CC.

Work 7 rows in Garter stitch.

BO all sts with Sewn BO method, or any stretchable BO method of your choice.

Side Borders

With CC and RS facing, PU and k 195 sts from the side edge.

Work 6 rows in Garter stitch, ending with RS row.

BO all sts using the Sewn BO method or any stretchable BO method of your choice.

Repeat with the opposite side edge.

Finishing

Block blanket to the measurements.

Weave in all ends.
