Emily Ringelman is a Midwest-born Californian living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she is an LSU scientist studying the viruses that infect sweet potatoes. Her favorite fall activity is stress knitting while yelling at the tv during Patriots games, but she also enjoys elaborate cooking projects, sewing her own clothes, and re-reading the Harry Potter books. Much of her design work is top-down, usually with either cables or a nautical bias.

Plaid Prep Clutch

This little plaid clutch is super preppy but really fun! The top closes with a big leather button, which really adds some style. This type of plaid knitting is easy since the vertical stripes are done afterwards with a crochet hook. The perfect gift for the preppy girl on your list. This clutch matches the Plaid Prep Tote featured in the October 2018 issue.

Hearts & Arrows Hat

This stranded colorwork hat features a repeating design of hearts and arrows. While it’s totally appropriate for Valentine’s Day, if that’s not your thing, make the hat monochrome using three shades of the same color ― light for the background, medium for the hearts, and dark for the arrows ― for a modern look.

Arctic Cardigan

This cardigan features a simple all-over cable pattern. The borders are all squishy garter stitch, and the collar is especially squishy because of short rows that help it fold over. Front patch pockets are both useful and fun.
