Not many knitting stitches are as easy and versatile as the seed stitch. Simply by alternating knits and purls every other stitch and every other row or round, you can produce a very pretty, textured piece of knitting that lays flat and doesn’t add bulk. You can knit an entire pillow or garment from the seed stitch or use it wherever you need a flat but interesting edging, such as on button bands or surrounding a blanket.

Beginning knitters like the seed stitch because it’s an easy variation to learn that looks more complicated—and impressive!
