Needles: US size 4 (3.5 mm): straight

Notions: US size C (2.75 mm) crochet hook; tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

The waistline of this top is shaped. Increases and decreases are worked one stitch after the first stitch and before the last stitch.

Decreases are worked on the wrong side as k2tog at the beginning of the row and ssk at the end of row.

Increases are worked as knitting in the yarn between the first and second st and the last 2 sts.

Persian Lace

Multiple of 8 sts + 2

Rows 1 and 3 (RS): P4, *k2, p6; repeat from * to last 6 sts, k2, p4.

Rows 2 and 4 (WS): K4, p2, *k6, p2; repeat from *, ending with k4.

Row 5: P3, *k2tog, yo, ssk, p4; repeat from *, ending last repeat with p3.

Row 6: K3, *p1, kfb in next st, p1, k4; repeat from *, ending last repeat with k3.

Row 7: P2, *k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, p2; repeat from * across.

Row 8: K2, *p6, k2, repeat from * across.

Switch to Persian Lace, work pattern repeat 5 times.

Switch to the Ribbing Pattern.

Work in Ribbing Pattern until piece measures 8 (8½, 8½, 8½, 9)”.

Waist shaping

Decrease 1 st at beg and end of row, every other row 3 times – 100 (116, 132, 148, 164) sts.

Work in pattern as established for 1″.

Increase 1 st at beg and end of row, every 4 rows 3 times– 106 (122, 138, 154, 170) sts.

Cont working in pattern as est until piece meas 17 (17.5, 17, 16.5, 17)”.

Armhole shaping

BO 10 (10, 11, 15, 19) sts at beg and end of row – 86 (102, 116, 124, 132) sts.

Back neck shaping

Cont in pattern as est until piece meas 24 (25, 25, 25, 26)”.

Work next 29 (34, 35, 41, 44) sts, with another piece of yarn, BO 28 (34, 46, 42, 44) sts, work the last 29 (34, 35, 41, 44) sts.

Working both shoulders at the same time, decrease 1 st on each side of the neckline every other row 4 times – 25 (30, 31, 37, 40) sts

Work until piece measures 25 (26, 26, 26, 27)”.

Place sts on holder to be bound with front shoulder sts.

Front

Work same as Back until piece meas 21 (22, 22, 22, 23)”.

Neckline shaping

Work next 29 (34, 35, 41, 44) sts, with another piece of yarn, BO 28 (34, 46, 42, 44) sts, work the last 29 (34, 35, 41, 44) sts.

Working both shoulders at the same time, decrease 1 st on each side of the neckline every other row 4 times – 25 (30, 31, 37, 40) sts.

Work until piece measures 25 (26, 26, 26, 27)”.

Using the 3-needle BO technique, BO front and back shoulder sts together.

Sleeve (make 2)

CO 66 (74, 82, 90, 98) sts.

Work 6 rows of garter stitch.

Switch to Persian Lace pattern, increasing at beg and end of the row, every other row 7 times – 80 (88, 96, 104, 112) sts.

Work in pattern as est until piece measures 4″, 2 repeats of the Persian Lace pattern complete.

BO all sts loosely.

Finishing

With RS facing and starting at the center of back neck, attach yarn and work one round of single crochet (sc) around the neckline. Work one round of Reverse sc. Fasten off.

Sew side seams. Sew sleeves to armhole. Sew sleeve seams. Block top to size.yarn ball
