Dancing Lights Shawl & Scarf

When looking at the northern lights it appears that they are moving in many different directions. The lace pattern in this shawl was created to mimic that effect, creating many different lines for the eye to follow. This triangular shawl is knit from the top using a simple pattern and stitch markers.

  • Hello Karen,
Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out. As you start the pattern there are only a few stitches but as you go more and more stitches are added. By the end you have hundreds of stitches on you needle so you need to have a circular needle that is long enough to accommodate them. I would recommend a 24” needle at the very least but there’s no harm in getting one that’s even longer. Please let me know if you have anymore questions, and happy knitting!

I plan to make your Dancing Lights Shawl. I love it! You recommend a size 6 circular needle, but you don’t state how long. I am a fairly new knitter. How long should the cord be? Thank you for your response.
