The first st of each row is slipped purlwise with yarn held at wrong side of work.

For the fabric, corded lace fabric with heavy ground is recommended. Avoid fabrics with fine mesh grounds.

Pattern

CO 43 sts.

Begin working in Starlight Lace Pattern.

Work Rows 1-16 until piece meas 27”, ending with either Row 8 or Row 16.

Next Row (WS): Bind off loosely purlwise.

Finishing

Wet block cowl, allow to dry.

Draw a rectangle on tracing paper or brown paper that is exactly the dimensions of your knitted piece. The paper piece will be the pattern for cutting out the fabric. Position the rectangle on the fabric so the long edge is parallel to the selvedge, and pin in place. Cut out the fabric in the shape of the rectangle.

Using yarn and sharp tapestry needle, with right side facing, sew 43 blanket stitches along each short edge of the fabric rectangle.

*Place the bound-off edge of the cowl with one short edge of the fabric flat with RS of both fabrics facing up.

Stitch the knit piece to the fabric using the whip stitch or mattress stitch method, catching one bound-off stitch on the knit piece and one blanket stitch on the fabric piece.

Rep from * to join the CO edge of the knit piece to the opposite short side of the fabric piece.
