Metal Heart Shawl

The Metal Heart Shawl is a lovely little shawl that can be wrapped like a scarf or worn over the shoulders as a shawl. Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 60” wide, 14” deep at center after blocking

Gauge: 25 sts and 36 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking


Yarn: Astral Bath Yarns Tesseract (75% superwash merino, 10% silk, 15% cashmere; 400 yards [365 meters]/115 grams): Metal Heart, 1 skein
Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm) circular (40”) knitting needle
Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked from the top down and is knit flat in rows.


Using a provisional cast on method, CO 3 sts.
Knit 9 rows.
Next Row: K3, turn work 90 degrees, pick up and knit 4 sts in side of garter stitch, remove provisional cast on and k3. (10 sts)
Row 1 (RS): K2, yo, k1, yo, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2. (14 sts)
Rows 2 (WS): K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 3: K2, yo, k1, yo, k to last 3 sts, yo, k1, yo, k2 (4 sts inc).
Row 4: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.
Repeat Rows 3-4 59 more times. (254 sts)
Work Rows 1-26 of chart.
BO all sts loosely.


Wash and block using blocking wires. Weave in ends and trim. yarn ball
