Arcus Hat

Arcus, latin for archery, is a simple hat with arrow motifs. Knit in a lovely cream-colored yarn, this hat is easily customizable to match your winter coat. The texture in this hat is what brings it all together!

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 18” / [46 cm] circumference x 8¾” / [22 cm] high.

Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st using larger needles.

Materials

Yarn: Brooklyn Tweed Arbor (100% Wool; 145 yards [133 meters]/50 grams): Hammock, 2 balls.

Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm): 16” circular; US size 7 (4.5 mm): DPNs; US size 6 (4 mm): 16” circular or one size smaller than needles used to obtain gauge.

Notions: Stitch marker (for beginning of rnd); 5 stitch markers (optional) to mark pattern repeats; cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.

Sl – Slip stitch.

Pattern Notes

Arcus is worked in the round from the bottom up using a combination of slipped stitches and simple cables to create the alternating arrow motif.

All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise with yarn in back.

Pattern

With smaller needles and method of your choice, CO 96 sts. Place marker and join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts.

Work in 1×1 Ribbing until piece meas 1” / [2.5 cm] from CO edge.

Change to larger needles.

Work Rnds 1-56 of Arrow Pattern until piece meas 7½” / [19 cm] from CO edge.

Work Crown, changing to DPNs when necessary.

Rnd 1: *Sl 1, p5, p2tog, sl 1, p2tog, p5; rep from * to end of rnd – 84 sts.

Rnd 2: *P5, p2tog, k1, p2tog, p4; rep from * to end of rnd – 72 sts.

Rnd 3: *P4, p2tog, sl 1, p2tog, p3; rep from * to end of rnd – 60 sts.

Rnd 4: *P3, p2tog, k1, p2tog, p2; rep from * to end of rnd – 48 sts.
